Job description

TITLE: INTERNSHIP AND CAREER COORDINATOR / COACH BARCLAYS PROGRAMS

REPORTS TOSENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER, REBOUND, GOAL-E Program Manager

LOCATION: 876 Schenck Avenue Brooklyn NY 11207

HOURS: 35 Hours/Week; Exempt  

 SALARY: $50,000-$55,000/Year

JOB SUMMARY: Barclays Programs Rebound Elevate and Goal-E are job readiness programs that incorporate various sports to engage participants including Basketball, Soccer and Tennis.  The programs serve young adults, who are disconnected, justice involved, overage and/or under-credited. In close collaboration with other program staff, the Internship Career Coordinator provides job readiness and career exploration workshops, as well as work one on one with youth. The Rebound Elevate program uses basketball as a vehicle for engagement, but also as avenues for learning job readiness skills such as teamwork, conflict resolution and taking direction from a coach/supervisor. Rebound Elevate is centered around exploring careers in sports. Goal-E (Goal Employment) is a career readiness program utilizing Soccer as a focal point to explore careers, employment, education and vocational options for participants. As the Soccer Coach for Goal-E, this role is responsible for coordinating and facilitating Soccer and sports related skills and drills to engage participants.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Facilitate career exploration, work readiness and financial literacy workshops for program participants.
  • Lead work readiness workshops utilizing virtual platforms as needed, specifically Zoom Video Conferencing.
  • Provide individual 1 on 1 job and career counseling to young adults centered on career mapping and goal setting.
  • Support participants growth by providing continuous feedback and resources to meet individual needs.
  • Assist the Basketball Coach in utilizing basketball to teach life and job skills (i.e., teamwork and conflict resolution).
  • Responsible for recruitment and enrollment of youth to the program with Sr. Program Manager and Basketball Coach.
  • Build Partnerships via community canvasing, tabling events, and facilitation of presentations.
  • Assist youth in preparing for and securing employment opportunities.
  • Monitor and provide support to participants once they have gained employment.
  • Provide alumni outreach and support including career counseling, referrals, and skill development.
  • Provide referrals to internal and external partners including housing, mental health counseling, educational and vocational programs, and other community resources.
  • Perform statistical, narrative, and record keeping duties as required, including monthly and quarterly reports.
  • Utilize technology daily to execute job functions including computers, tablets and phones to perform administrative tasks, data entry, virtual workshop facilitation, word processing, email correspondence, text messaging, social media marketing and internet navigation/research.
  • Respond to needs of participants during programming in workshops, sports activities and special events.
  • Coordinate, support and implement special program events and activities including end of cohort celebrations.
  • Coach soccer training/match related sessions 2-3 times a week.
  • Develop a soccer curriculum that reflects the principles of workforce readiness used by the Goal-E Internship Career Coordinator.
  • Organize, Coordinate and run annual soccer tournaments and sporting events.
  • Assist with Program Recruitment and Marketing
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and funder events.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree or 2+ years of experience developing employment opportunities for youth and/or young adults preferred.
  • Experience working with older youth ages 15-24 who may be disengaged and/or justice involved youth preferred.
  • Strong group facilitation or teaching skills required.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and participants and network with diverse employer constituents.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel across NYC.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication a strongly preferred.
  • Must be able to engage young people and set structure and limits in a group setting
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practice a plus
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength-based, and/or youth development perspective.
  • NSCAA or USSF soccer license a plus.
  • CPR, First Aid & AED Certification a plus
