Description
Job Summary: The Mental Health Worker establishes a therapeutic relationship with all patients and is responsible for the overall provision and maintenance of a safe, therapeutic environment in the behavioral health unit. Documents on patient activities and interactions with patients. Takes vital signs, weighs patients, and collects routine specimens. Completes various routine unit duties. Ensure patient safety by providing continuous safety checks and 1:1 direct patient observation as needed. Assists patients with ADLs. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Closely monitors patient behaviors and intervenes as needed. Works under immediate supervision.
Job Duties: Assists in the delivery of patient care. Provides care in accordance with the individualized treatment plan. Actively engages patients in discussion of their care plan. Reviews associated progress and documents accordingly.
Provides milieu management. Encourages and/or assists patients to perform all activities of daily living (i.e. showering and grooming). Encourages patient participation in designed programming. 4pc provides classroom support at the direction of a qualified teacher.
Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment. With a focus on patient safety, monitors the environment and screens patients for related safety issues. Reports and documents findings as required. Demonstrates leadership in responding to patient-related behavioral crisis or Code Grey emergencies. Follows accepted practices and procedures to mitigate risks. Uses accepted practices and therapeutic modalities to assist patients in regaining or improving their coping abilities. Perform continuous safety checks. Remains actively rounding in the milieu. Documents on patient checks and safety mitigation lists.
Assists with routine unit duties. Safely brings in and takes out food carts and monitors patient meals. Assists patients with laundry and takes out dirty bed/bath linens when needed. Encourages and supports patient engagement in leisure activities, games, television, books, crafts, etc.
Delivers care through a team-oriented model. Works in accordance to assigned patient and floor responsibilities. Collaborate with other team members to effectively clarify, share, and complete assignments.
Completes required learning. Maintains or completes all positions and hospital wide competencies. Identifies and completes all required learning in a timely manner.
Provides patient care in accordance with regulatory standards. Provides care guided by TJC and DOH standards. Identifies and adheres to National Patient Safety Goals.
Requirements
  • High School diploma/GED
  • Experience or training in mental health care, including knowledge of PTSD care and behavioral health principles.
  • Crisis management training within 90 days of hire.
  • BLS upon hire
