Job description

Job Overview

Fairview is looking for a compassionate Mental Health Associate to join our Emergency Department at Fairview Ridges Hospital located in Burnsville, MN.  The hospital is just 20 minutes south of Minneapolis, MN near the 35E and 35 W conjunctions! It has been providing state-of-the art care and community services to the residents of the scenic Minnesota Valley since 1984.

The Mental Health Associate is responsible for the delivery of patient care and promotion of a therapeutic environment as delegated by and under the supervision of the Registered Nurse so that goals and objectives of treatment are achieved on each unit as assigned.

This role is approved for 56 hours, every two weeks on the evening shift, 3:00PM - 11:30PM, working 8 hour shifts and every other weekend (Friday, Saturday and Sunday).

Responsibilities

  • Conducts safety checks of patients through visual observation and documentation.
  • Conducts room, belonging and unit searches and ensures a safe, secure environment.
  • Responds and participates in de-escalation of patient including physical intervention as trained.
  • Actively participates in milieu management with treatment team collaboration.
  • Performs basic patient daily living routines and procedures according to treatment plan:
  • Demonstrates knowledge of signs/symptoms of diagnoses and interventions.
  • Conducts educational programming with individual and/or patient groups according to appropriate treatment plan.
  • Responds to emergency situations as trained per policy.
  • Participates in the treatment team’s mission, goals and plans.
  • Acts as a member of the multi-disciplinary therapeutic team.
  • Exhibits verbal communication in a timely, thorough, and professional manner.
  • Possesses knowledge of current issues, changes and updates in Behavioral Services policies and procedures.
  • Provide light to medium ADL assistance, including hygiene, grooming, dressing, oral care, toileting, eating and mobility support.
  • Assist with supplies, setup, and patient direction regarding basic care routines.
  • Provide mobility support appropriate to training (e.g., gait belts, wheelchair assistance).
  • Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served.
  • Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
  • Communicates in a respective manner.
  • Individualizes plan of care to meet patient needs.
  • Modifies clinical interventions based on population served.
  • Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.
  • Complies with and maintains knowledge of all relevant laws, regulation, policies, procedures and standards.

Required Qualifications

  • 2 years experience in mental health, healthcare, or school setting (NST, PCS, behavioral tech, etc.).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Assoc, Red Cross)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, Sociology, Human Services, Health Care, Social Work, Criminal Justice, or related field
  • Experience in inpatient or ED behavioral health or related higher acuity settings such as a school, residential treatment facility, group home, etc.
