Job description

The Loma Linda VA has an opening for an energetic, driven, and compassionate Emergency Medicine Physician.

The Position:

VA Loma Linda Healthcare System is seeking an Emergency Medicine physician at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) who will provide urgent and potentially life-saving medical care to Veterans who come to the VA Medical Center Emergency Department.

1. Assessment and Stabilization:

* Rapidly assess and stabilize Veterans with acute illnesses, injuries, or exacerbations of chronic conditions.

* Perform initial evaluation, order necessary labs and imaging, and initiate treatment.

2. Emergency Procedures:

* Perform emergency procedures such as airway management (intubation), cardiac resuscitation (CPR/ACLS), wound repair, fracture management, and procedural sedation.

3. Multidisciplinary Care Coordination:

* Collaborate with other specialties (cardiology, surgery, psychiatry, etc.) for patient consultations, admissions, or transfers.

* Work with nurses, social workers, and other team members for comprehensive Veteran-centered care.

4. Management of a Broad Range of Cases:

* Care for both medical and psychiatric emergencies, including chest pain, stroke, sepsis, trauma, suicidal ideation, and substance withdrawal.

* Address unique Veteran health needs, such as service-related injuries, PTSD, and military sexual trauma.

5. Disposition Decisions:

* Determine whether Veterans can be safely discharged, admitted, or require transfer to a higher level of care.

* Provide clear instructions for follow-up, medications, and warning signs.

6. Documentation and Compliance:

* Document all care provided in the VA Electronic Health Record.

* Adhere to VA policies, procedures, and regulatory standards (such as those set by The Joint Commission).

7. Disaster and Mass Casualty Response:

* Participate in hospital-wide disaster planning, drills, and emergency responses.

Work Schedule: (6)12 hr. shifts, (1) 8 hr. shift every two weeks (per pay period).
