Job description

As an Advanced Hardware Engineer at Honeywell, you will play a key role in designing and developing sophisticated hardware solutions that advance the future of aerospace technology. You will apply deep technical expertise to create innovative, high-reliability hardware that contributes to safer, more efficient, and more dependable aerospace products.
In this role, you will support Honeywell's Integrated Flight Deck Systems (IFS) organization and contribute to the development of the next generation of Honeywell Anthem™ Displays. Working under minimal supervision, you will collaborate with world-class engineers to design, test, validate, and transition complex hardware from prototype through production. You will also serve as a technical mentor, supporting the growth of junior engineers and contributing to the success of complex engineering programs.
You will report directly to our Sr Engineering Manager, and you'll work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule. External hires will begin with 90 days on site before transitioning to a 3/2 hybrid schedule.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and development of advanced hardware systems from concept through production.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define hardware requirements and ensure seamless integration with software and systems engineering.
  • Perform schematic capture, PCB design support, and comprehensive hardware validation to ensure performance, reliability, and compliance.
  • Conduct troubleshooting, debugging, and root-cause analysis during development and qualification phases.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Interface with internal and external stakeholders to ensure products meet customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Stay current with emerging hardware technologies and aerospace industry trends to drive innovation in product designs.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related field with 5+ years of hardware engineering experience, or
  • Master's degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or a related field with 3+ years of hardware engineering experience.
  • U.S. citizenship or permanent residency due to export control and ITAR requirements.
  • Strong expertise in schematic capture, hardware testing methodologies, and design verification.
  • In-depth knowledge of analog and digital circuit design, signal integrity, and power management.
  • Experience with hardware validation, debugging tools, and compliance with aerospace standards.

WE VALUE
  • Experience with modern processing technologies, including microprocessors, FPGAs, memory, and high-speed I/O.
  • Experience designing module-level analog/linear circuits such as signal conditioning and data conversion (ADC/DAC).
  • Demonstrated experience performing Product/LRU and Printed Board Assembly (PBA) design verification and qualification.
  • Working knowledge of DO-254 (Design Assurance for Airborne Electronic Hardware) and RTCA DO-160 qualification guidelines.
  • Proven ability to design, simulate, analyze, and verify hardware performance against requirements.
  • Proficiency with Mentor Graphics Xpedition (or similar design tools), Mathcad, LTspice, and Microsoft Excel.
  • Test engineering experience, including requirements-based verification.
  • Familiarity with the avionics development lifecycle and strong troubleshooting/debug capabilities.
