Job description

Welcome to The Grove at Countryside. Welcome Home. We're looking for a dynamic and personable Memory Care Director to carry out the company's Mission and Core Values.

The Grove at Countryside is operated by Starling, based out of Jacksonville, FL. Starling is an owner operator of multiple properties within the Southeast Region.

The professional selected for this dynamic role will manage all memory care neighborhood aspects of this 24-hour, 7 day a week assisted living community, in order to ensure resident and family satisfaction, as well as regulatory compliance. They will work directly with the Director of Nursing, closely with Executive Director, Starlings COO, and Regional team, to develop and execute initiatives to consistently deliver the Mission, company quality standards, and Core Values of the organization.


POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for providing overall leadership and management of Starling's Memory Care (Starlight). 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 The following duties are normal for this position.  This list is not to be construed as exclusive or all inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned. 

Resident Care and Programs

  • Plans, organizes, develops and leads the overall activities programming of Memory Care in accordance with federal, state and local laws.
  • Ensures a variety of appropriate activities are available throughout the day and evening and that Care Managers are actively involved and engaged with activities when the Director is unavailable or off site.
  • Supervises Engagement Assistants and Volunteers to ensure standards are met, programs are carried out as scheduled, and facilities communication between team members.
  • Facilitates the Volunteer Program within Memory Care and the community at large in conjunction with the Engagement Director.
  • Keeps adequate sensory items available for Care Givers and Engagement Assistants for 1:1s as needed, educates CNAs on how to use life stations, sensory baskets, IN2L, and other items needed to assist with Engagement.
  • Designs, schedules and facilitates the activities program incorporating Life Skills, parallel programming, sensory activities and a variety of dementia appropriate activities.
  • Appropriately reports to Nursing to ensure that the residents clinical needs are addressed.
  • Prior to move-in, reviews the resident's preferences and needs educating Care Managers of same.
  • Reaches out to all Memory Care families/responsible parties no less than monthly to share images from programs, updates on their residents. Uses discretion on when those updates should occur. Important updates must be made immediately.
  • Follows the Starling Memory Care Program Guide.
  • Ensures excellence in service delivery, safety, hydration and resident engagement in programming.
  • Partners with dining services to ensure meeting individualized resident needs and preferences; participates in dining experience.
  • Ensures temperatures of food and refrigerator are taken pre-service and documented. Ensures fridges in the Memory Care are cleaned out weekly.
  • Understands resident changes in condition and takes appropriate action by notifying nursing.
  • Attends the weekly Case Conference and updates caregivers on any changes.
  • Reviews Daily Log to document and lean about pertinent information and any resident's physical and behavioral changes.
  • Establishes a cooperative relationship with the local Alzheimer's Association chapter or other Alzheimer's advisory organization.
  • Ensures monthly family support group meetings are planned and facilitated.
  • Strives for excellent quality care and service delivery.
  • Develops a thorough working knowledge of current and evolving state laws, regulations, policies and procedures dictated for residents and ensures compliance. 
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees through various methods available and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Educational Requirements and Experience: 

  • Bachelors degree preferred.
  • One (1) year management in dementia care required.
  • One (1) year supervisory and management experience including hiring staff, coaching, performance management, daily operations supervision, discipline and counseling required.

Compensation will be based upon experience. This is salaried, exempt position with an expected compensation in the $60,000 range.
