Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Content & Membership Marketing Manager to develop content and execute marketing campaigns that support member engagement, program awareness and audience growth.

Reporting to the Director of Marketing & Communications, this role supports membership-related initiatives and key organizational programs through strong writing, content development, campaign execution and project coordination.

The ideal candidate is a strong writer and storyteller who can translate organizational priorities into clear, audience-focused content, manage campaigns across multiple channels and keep projects moving on schedule. This individual should be comfortable collaborating across departments, managing multiple priorities and working independently within established marketing strategies and goals.

The Content & Membership Marketing Manager will manage day-to-day membership marketing campaigns and support a portfolio that may include sections, registries, educational programs, digital content initiatives and other organizational priorities.

Requirements Key Responsibilities Membership Marketing & Engagement
  • Execute marketing plans and campaigns that support member recruitment, renewal, retention and engagement.
  • Develop messaging and content that clearly communicate the value of AANS membership and encourage participation in member programs, benefits and activities.
  • Partner with Membership and other internal teams to develop audience-specific communications across the member lifecycle.
  • Support membership renewal and dues campaigns, including messaging, content development, scheduling, execution and performance tracking.
  • Use member data and campaign results to identify opportunities to improve engagement and marketing effectiveness.
Content Development
  • Write and edit compelling, audience-focused content for email, websites, newsletters, digital platforms, promotional materials and other communications.
  • Translate complex organizational and program information into clear, engaging and actionable content.
  • Maintain consistent messaging, voice and brand standards across marketing channels.
  • Repurpose and adapt content across platforms to extend reach and engagement.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and internal stakeholders to develop accurate and relevant content.
Marketing Campaigns
  • Manage marketing campaigns for membership initiatives, educational programs, sections, registries and other assigned organizational priorities.
  • Develop campaign schedules and coordinate audiences, messaging, channels, deadlines and deliverables.
  • Coordinate campaign execution across email, web, digital and other marketing channels.
  • Maintain marketing calendars and project timelines to ensure campaigns are executed accurately and on schedule.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-promotion across organizational programs and audiences.
Digital Marketing & Performance
  • Support email marketing, website content, digital campaigns and other audience engagement channels.
  • Apply SEO and emerging generative engine optimization (GEO) best practices to improve content visibility and discoverability.
  • Monitor campaign and content performance using available analytics and reporting tools.
  • Track key performance indicators, including engagement, conversions, traffic and campaign results.
  • Recommend adjustments to messaging, content and campaign execution based on performance data.
  • Support testing and optimization of subject lines, calls to action, content and other campaign elements.
Project Management & Coordination
  • Coordinate assigned marketing projects from planning through execution.
  • Develop and maintain project timelines, deliverables and status updates.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, accuracy and deadlines.
  • Identify project risks or dependencies and communicate them to the Director of Marketing & Communications and appropriate stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external vendors or partners when needed to support marketing execution.
  • Maintain organized campaign materials, project documentation and performance information.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Membership, Education, Corporate Relations, Meetings, Digital, Communications and other teams to support organizational priorities.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to translate program goals into effective marketing content and campaigns.
  • Establish clear timelines and deliverables for assigned marketing projects.
  • Coordinate marketing activities across departments to support consistent messaging and execution.
  • Contribute ideas and recommendations that improve marketing processes, content and audience engagement.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, journalism, public relations or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in marketing, communications, content development or a related field.
  • Experience executing multi-channel marketing campaigns.
  • Strong writing, editing and storytelling skills with the ability to adapt content for different audiences and channels.
  • Experience developing digital and email marketing content.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Experience using analytics or performance data to evaluate marketing efforts.
  • Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently within established priorities and move assigned projects forward with limited day-to-day oversight.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in a membership association, nonprofit, health care, medical specialty society or professional organization.
  • Experience marketing membership programs, professional education, conferences or related programs.
  • Familiarity with association management systems, customer relationship management platforms or marketing automation tools.
  • Experience with website content management systems such as WordPress.
  • Working knowledge of SEO, GEO and digital content optimization.
  • Experience with audience segmentation and member engagement campaigns.
