Job description

Overview

The New York School of Career and Applied Studies (NYSCAS) within Touro University is looking to hire an Assistant Professor for History. The assistant professor is responsible for instruction, course preparation, developing instructional materials, grading and assessment, and professional responsibilities as a member of the instructional team.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Teach at least four undergraduate courses each semester
  • Assist in student advisement within the History Department, including course selection and career planning. This may include orientation and during other times when classes are not in session.
  • Respond to needs and concerns of departmental faculty, administrative staff and students in a respectful and professional manner.
  • Engage students in the classroom and inspire them to fulfill department and college-wide goals. Work closely with each student on multiple drafts of papers in order to improve their writing skills.
  • Create clear course descriptions and syllabi with achievable evaluable goals. Evaluate student work with thoughtful comments and in a timely manner.
  • Participate in professional conferences and/or publish work in academic journals in order to increase the visibility of Touro University.
QualificationsEducation/ Experience
  • Doctor of Philosophy in History required.
  • Ph.D. in History, with scholarship in a defined area.
  • Minimum 2 years teaching experience in a post-secondary institution.
  • Record of academic research.

Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities

  • Requires ability to manage multiple and varied tasks with frequent high levels of urgency or sensitivity.
  • Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues in a team environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required, both written and oral, as well as a high level of sophistication and maturity in social and professional settings.
  • Proficiency in Canvas, Microsoft Office including, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
