Both roles support patient care but differ in work environment and scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) Remote provider, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medication Assisted Treatment Remote provider, you need a clinical background in addiction medicine, appropriate medical licensure (such as MD, DO, NP, or PA), and certification to prescribe controlled substances (e.g., DATA 2000 waiver for buprenorphine). Familiarity with telehealth platforms, electronic prescribing systems, and secure electronic health records is essential. Strong communication, empathy, and cultural sensitivity are critical soft skills for building trust and effectively supporting patients remotely. These skills and qualifications ensure safe, compliant, and compassionate care for individuals seeking recovery through virtual MAT services.

What is a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) remote job?

A Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) remote job involves providing care and support for individuals with substance use disorders, primarily through virtual platforms. Professionals in these roles, such as physicians, nurse practitioners, or counselors, evaluate patients, prescribe medication like buprenorphine or methadone, and offer counseling or therapy—all remotely. This approach increases access to treatment for people who may not be able to visit clinics in person, ensuring ongoing support and recovery. Remote MAT jobs require strong communication skills, relevant licensure, and familiarity with telehealth regulations.

What are the typical responsibilities for a remote Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) provider, and how does collaboration work in a virtual environment?

As a remote MAT provider, your daily responsibilities include conducting virtual patient assessments, prescribing and managing medications such as buprenorphine or methadone, and monitoring patient progress through regular telehealth check-ins. You'll also maintain detailed electronic health records and coordinate care with counselors, case managers, and local healthcare providers to ensure comprehensive support for patients. Effective communication and collaboration are key, often facilitated through secure messaging platforms, regular team meetings, and shared care plans to maintain continuity of care and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Job description

Description
Addiction Treatment Social Worker (LCSW / LMSW) - Remote
At $75,000 to $85,000 across our New York City and Long Island clinics, we need an Addiction Treatment Social Worker who already knows the work of helping people through substance use and recovery. You will assess, counsel, and coordinate care using evidence-based, trauma-informed practices, connecting patients to treatment, medication-assisted treatment, and the resources that keep them engaged. With CASAC counselors and peer advocates beside you and AI copilots handling the paperwork, your focus stays on care.
Why You'll Love This Role
  • Less admin, more care. AI copilots handle the documentation so your time goes to patients, not paperwork.
  • Work that matters. Meet people at a hard moment and help them move toward recovery.
  • Evidence-based practice. Motivational Interviewing, CBT, LOCADTR, and MAT support, done to standard.
  • A real team. CASAC counselors, peer advocates, a medical director, and clinical leadership beside you.
  • Grow your career. Supervision and development toward and beyond your clinical license.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Base Salary: $75,000 to $85,000 (based on experience and license level)
  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Complimentary $50,000 Life and AD&D insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Paid time off and paid leave
  • Free or discounted care for you and your family at any Nao Medical clinic
  • Pet insurance
  • AI-powered documentation tools that reduce admin and protect your time with patients

What You'll Do
  • Assess and screen. Conduct psychosocial and substance use assessments and complete OASAS LOCADTR level of care determinations.
  • Counsel and intervene. Provide individual and group counseling using Motivational Interviewing, CBT, and other evidence-based modalities.
  • Support medication-assisted treatment. Coordinate care for patients on MAT alongside prescribing providers.
  • Coordinate and connect. Build recovery-focused care plans and link patients to treatment, harm reduction, housing, and community resources.
  • Partner with the SUD team. Work closely with CASAC counselors and peer advocates to keep patients engaged in care.
  • Document to standard. Keep accurate, timely records that meet OASAS and New York State requirements, with AI copilots assisting.

Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited institution
  • Active New York State license as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)
  • Direct experience treating or supporting patients with substance use disorders is required
  • Familiarity with evidence-based SUD practices: Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the OASAS LOCADTR level of care determination, and care for patients on Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT)
  • Ability to deliver care that is strength-based, trauma-informed, and tailored to each patient's recovery goals
  • Strong knowledge of New York community resources, Medicaid/Medicare, and recovery support systems
  • Bilingual fluency in Spanish is highly preferred
