Effective time management, strong communication skills, and familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems can help MSAs excel in this fast-paced environment. Seeking support from colleagues and participating in ongoing training also contribute to success in this role.

To thrive as a Medical Support Assistant at the VA, you need strong administrative skills, attention to detail, and a high school diploma or equivalent, with preference for experience in healthcare settings. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems like VistA/CPRS and scheduling software is typically required. Exceptional interpersonal communication, customer service, and multitasking abilities help you excel in patient-facing roles. These skills ensure efficient clinic operations, accurate record-keeping, and a positive experience for veterans seeking care.
