Job description

Job Summary:
Heartflow is a medical technology company advancing the diagnosis and management of coronary artery disease. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design and develop cloud-based services and modern web applications that support the next generation of Heartflow technologies.
Responsibilities:
• Lead end-to-end feature development across the full technology stack
• Independent, end-to-end ownership of the design, development, testing, and maintenance of robust APIs (Python, AWS), interactive web applications (Django backend and Vue.js frontend), pipeline orchestrations, and associated infrastructure.
• Contribute to the long-term technical roadmap by providing architectural feedback that ensures current systems remain compatible with future orchestration goals.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the technical excellence of our team.
• Make data-driven decisions while practicing creative problem solving.
• Write clean, maintainable, well-documented code with a focus on high-stakes quality, performance, and user experience.
• Improve infrastructure components including orchestration pipelines, test frameworks, and CI/CD workflows.
• Lead the technical integration of emerging tools, such as Agentic AI frameworks, to automate internal developer workflows and improve team velocity.
• Contribute to releases of application deployments and participate in on-call production support as needed.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, and Engineering stakeholders to define and implement product features.
• Participate in code reviews and champion engineering best practices.
• Contribute to a culture of technical excellence, innovation, best practices, and continuous improvement.
• Ensure compliance with FDA regulations for medical software and supporting systems, including documentation and quality assurance processes.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Education: BS in Computer Science or a related technical field + 5 years of experience; OR MS/PhD in Computer Science or related field + 3 years; OR equivalent practical experience as a full-stack software engineer.
• Proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript.
• Strong development experience with Python.
• Strong cloud development experience (preferably AWS).
• Familiarity with modern web frameworks (Django & Vue.js strongly preferred, but Angular/React is acceptable).
• Deep understanding of backend and frontend security best practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze and resolve complex issues.
• Solid grasp of modern software development methodologies including CI/CD, testing, and Agile practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred:
• Advanced proficiency in: Python, Django, JavaScript, TypeScript, Vue.js
• Nginx, Pytest, GitHub, GitHub Actions
• Hands-on experience designing and building orchestration pipelines.
• Strong AWS experience with services such as: Kubernetes, CDK, Step Functions, Lambdas, API Gateway, Fargate, ECS, Aurora (MySQL 8.0+)
• Demonstrated success in delivering cloud-native APIs, scalable web apps, and complex distributed systems.
• Experience developing regulated medical software (e.g., Software as a Medical Device) in compliance with FDA
