Job description

Summary

As a Medical Physicist Assistant I, you will, under the supervision of Chief Medical Physicist, provide services to the Medical Physics Section in accordance with the highest standards of practice and as required by regulatory and accrediting agencies while completing medical physics certificate program.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Assist with acceptance, commissioning, routine quality assurance, and post-service clinical verification of new and existing radiation oncology imaging and delivery devices.

  • Assist with patient specific treatment plan evaluation and in vivo dose evaluation.

  • Assist with maintenance of equipment and treatment records required for APEx accreditation.

  • Participate in cutting edge medical physics clinical activities, including the preparation, publishing, and presentation of scientific findings.

  • Participate in ongoing educational activities for radiation therapists, medical dosimetrists, radiation oncology physics residents, and radiation oncology medical residents.

  • Complete requirements of medical physics certificate program

  • Perform other duties assigned by the Department Administration or Chief Medical Physicist

Knowledge Skills Abilities
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving and attention to detail required.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are essential.

  • Must demonstrate accuracy and situational awareness.

  • Ability to closely follow established procedures required.

  • Proficiency in computer programming (Python, Java, C++) preferred.

Qualifications

Minimum Required Education: PhD in Medical Physics or similar scientific field (Physics, Engineering, etc.)

Minimum Required Experience: 0 years/none

Physical Requirements

Work requires occasionally lifting moderate weight materials, standing, or walking continuously.

Work Environment

Occasional exposure to dust, noise, temperature changes, or contact with water or other liquids. Work is performed in an environmentally controlled environment.

Sensory Acuity

Ability to detect and translate speech or other communication required. May occasionally require the ability to distinguish colors and perceive relative distances between objects.
