Job description

Job Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist

Job Description

This Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) contract role focuses on leading and supporting laboratory quality initiatives, validation projects, regulatory compliance, and preparation for CAP inspections in a large, complex core laboratory. Over a 13-week engagement on a weekday day shift schedule, you will serve as a technical expert, helping to ensure laboratory excellence, regulatory readiness, and continuous quality improvement across operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and oversee test validation activities to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Lead and support instrument and analyzer validation projects, including implementation, performance verification, and documentation.
  • Conduct comprehensive quality control (QC) reviews, including analysis of QC data and identification of trends or issues.
  • Perform linearity studies and reviews to confirm analytical measurement ranges and ensure reliable test performance.
  • Support completion of CAP self-inspections and contribute to regulatory readiness activities and accreditation preparation.
  • Assist with analyzer and assay validation initiatives, ensuring proper configuration, calibration, and performance monitoring.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements across assigned projects.
  • Collaborate closely with laboratory leadership, supervisors, and technical staff to maintain operational excellence in the core laboratory.
  • Contribute to process improvement and quality initiatives designed to enhance laboratory workflows and outcomes.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to laboratory staff on validation, QC, and regulatory compliance procedures.
  • Document validation, QC, and inspection-related activities thoroughly and accurately to support regulatory and accreditation needs.
  • Support high-impact project work rather than routine bench testing, focusing on quality assurance, validation, and CAP readiness.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS).
  • Proven experience performing test validations in a clinical laboratory setting.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting instrument and analyzer validations, including implementation and performance verification.
  • Experience performing quality control reviews, including assessment and interpretation of QC data.
  • Hands-on experience conducting linearity studies and reviewing analytical measurement ranges.
  • Active ASCP MLS, MLT, or equivalent certification.
  • Strong technical laboratory expertise with a focus on validation and quality assurance.
  • Ability to work effectively with laboratory leadership and technical staff to support complex laboratory operations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of laboratory quality and compliance.

Work Environment

This is a 13-week contract assignment in a large academic medical center core laboratory environment, with a strong emphasis on quality, validation, and regulatory compliance. The role is structured as a day shift position, Monday through Friday, with hours generally from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM and flexibility available; there is a preference for the majority of hours to be worked after noon. There are no weekend duties, no on-call requirements, no floating to other departments, and no holiday coverage. You will work within a nationally recognized academic health system laboratory that handles complex testing and supports CAP accreditation, using a range of analyzers and instruments that require ongoing validation, QC, and regulatory oversight. The environment is professional, collaborative, and project-focused, providing opportunities to engage with laboratory leadership and technical staff on high-impact initiatives that enhance quality and compliance across the core laboratory.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $52.00/hr.
