How you'll contribute

A Medical Lab Technician (MLT) who excels in this role:

  • Performs common testing procedures and reports test results.
  • Performs instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains supplies needed for performance of tests.
  • Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.
  • Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.
  • Performs and determines accuracy of technical lab procedures
  • Maintains records of procedures performed, the patient results and the quality control required for all procedures performed.
  • Performs quality control procedures outlined by the manufacturer or departmental procedure for each procedure or piece of equipment.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of all quality control tests completed.
  • Assures that all out-of-control procedures are followed and that there is documentation of remedial actions taken.
  • Reads and understands all procedure manuals on an annual basis.
  • Performs quality assurance studies as assigned.
  • Collects biological specimens.
  • Prepares and forwards biological specimens to appropriate reference laboratory according to departmental procedures.
  • Provides instruction to students/new employees with regard to procedures and departmental policies.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and to the overall team approach to the laboratory.
  • Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs CLIA waived and Moderate complexity tests at a Maximum. Does NOT perform High complexity testing.
  • Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.
  • Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Completes annual educational requirements.

  • Associate degree in Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science Required
  • High School Diploma Required
  • Licenses: License Eligible post Associate's Diploma
  • Must be enrolled in Associates Clinical Lab Science program or be eligible.
  • MLT Certified through ASCP or AMT Preferred- or eligible
