Job description

As a General Finishes Lab Technician, you will provide different technical activities to support professional engineering and scientific activities. As an experienced lab technician, you will work independently or in concert with chemists and professional engineers or project leaders to plan, construct, test and document assignments involving the use of learned skills in a particular field of engineering or science. Ideally, experienced lab technicians are expected to operate with minimal supervision and independently plan and execute all aspects of an experiment following a discussion with the supervisor.

You will work onsite at our Oak Creek, WI facility and report to the General Finishes Team Lead.

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all PPG EH&S and safety guidelines.

  • Preparation and application of liquid coating products and testing of these coatings against different specifications and customer requirements.

  • Independently plan tasks following a discussion of goals and procedures with the supervisor.

  • Observe unusual results and suggest possible root causes.

  • Make smooth transitions between projects or situations.

  • Build on past experiences to improve efficiency.

  • Seek additional assignments.

  • Solve problems in own area.

  • Make/contribute o internal presentations.

  • Learn, understand, support, and conform to company processes, along with Adherence to company policy.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of lab experience required.

  • High School diploma or GED

  • Mechanically inclined, comfortable with hands-on benchwork, and working with complex equipment.

  • Previous work in a coating's laboratory environment.

  • Color matching experience.

  • Strong math skills and high school chemistry is preferred.

  • Read and interpret complex customer specifications.

  • Computer skills including Word and Excel are required.
