Job description

Medical Temporaries, Inc. is currently seeking an experienced ***Medical Lab Technician***.
Minimum of 1 year paid Medical Lab Technician experience required.
This is a FULL TIME/TEMP TO HIRE position located on-site in Hampton, VA (23668).

Job Hours:
Hours: Monday – Thursday – 9:00am -6:00pm / Friday 8:00am-5:00pm
*Required to fill-in for other medical laboratory technicians when needed.
A Day in the life of a Medical Lab Technician :

The medical laboratory technician is responsible for the laboratory, to include the collection and processing of all specimens, maintenance of equipment, ordering and inventory of supplies, completion of laboratory requisitions, and following procedures in accordance with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), the Commission on Office Laboratory Accreditation (COLA), and other applicable standards. They are expected to maintain quality and efficiency of laboratory services.
Responsible to the Director of Operations, Laboratory Director, doctors, and nurse practitioners, Health Center students and employees, clinically and as directed.
Qualifications:
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program.
  • Current State Board Certification for Medical Laboratory Technician required.
  • Previous Medical Laboratory Technician work experience required.
  • Graduate of Phlebotomy school required.
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required.
  • Phlebotomy training for at least 90 days preferred.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Performs in-house laboratory testing.
  • Maintain logbooks and records laboratory test sent out, tracking results.
  • Performs proficiency testing on laboratory equipment as indicated; maintains log of proficiency testing results.
  • Establishes controls and standards for in-house laboratory procedures.
  • Performs venipuncture and finger sticks on students and employees; collects viable specimens from the Health Center patients in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Adheres to standards set by OSHA, CLIA, and COLA in documenting quality control procedures.
  • Works with the Health Center regarding test availability and the collection of specimens.
  • Prepares specimens, records for in-house and outside laboratory procedures, and records lab results.
  • Performs monthly control procedure on all laboratory equipment in accordance with OSHA and CLIA.
  • Tracks laboratory results for missing reports and follow-up on missing reports.
  • Maintains daily statistics for laboratory procedures.
  • Conduct mandated lab review with designated accrediting agency.
  • Train on Banner and MediCat software platforms.
  • Additional duties may be added as indicated.
