Job description

JOB TITLE: HIM Ambulatory Specialist - Riedman Campus, Health Information Management (Full-Time, Days)

STATUS: Full-Time

LOCATION: Riedman Campus - 100 Kings Highway South, Rochester, NY 14617

DEPARTMENT: Health Information Management

SCHEDULE: M-F, Flexible 7-3:30, 7:30-4, 8-4:30 or 8:30-5

SUMMARY

Maintains the confidentiality, security and integrity of medical records according to Rochester Regional Health policies along with State and Federal regulations. Duties include application of a variety of work methods, familiarity with department and the following of pertinent policies, practices, procedures and government regulations. Supports the daily operations of the practice by ensuring that patient needs are being met. Performs a variety of duties to include, but not limited to data entry, scanning, faxing, copying, mailing, phone calls, chart boxing, provided direction and training to team members as instructed by leadership. Assists in a customer service manner by interacting with patients, families/personal representatives and RRH Staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide excellent customer service by assisting patients, providers, and external partners

  • Process and track Release of Information (ROI) requests while ensuring HIPAA compliance

  • Handle incoming calls, mail, faxes, and electronic in-basket messages

  • Scan, index, quality check, and maintain electronic medical records

  • Manage paper records, including retrieval, storage, retention, and destruction

  • Ensure the accuracy, security, and accessibility of medical records

  • Collaborate with vendors and internal departments to resolve record-related issues

  • Support additional Health Information Management (HIM) functions as needed

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school Diploma

  • 1+ years of experience in Health Information Management, Customer Service relates industry or other Healthcare setting

ATTRIBUTES

  • Associate's degree in Health Information Management, Business, IT, or related field (preferred)

  • Experience with Epic, Cerner, Meditech, or other EMR systems

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and document management software

  • Knowledge of HIPAA and state/federal health information regulations

  • Strong computer, customer service, and communication skills

  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities

  • Ability to prioritize, multitask, and work independently

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and meet deadlines under pressure
