What is a medical informatics consultant?

A Medical Informatics Consultant is a professional who specializes in implementing and managing technology solutions to improve healthcare data management, patient care, and clinical workflows. They work at the intersection of healthcare, information technology, and data analysis, helping organizations adopt electronic health records, ensure regulatory compliance, and optimize information systems. Their role often includes advising on best practices, training staff, and supporting data-driven decision-making. Medical Informatics Consultants are essential for healthcare organizations seeking to leverage technology to enhance efficiency and patient outcomes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a medical informatics consultant?

A Medical Informatics Consultant requires expertise in healthcare data management, knowledge of clinical workflows, and typically a background in health informatics or a related field. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, data analytics tools, and industry standards such as HL7 and HIPAA compliance is essential. Strong analytical thinking, communication, and project management skills help consultants bridge gaps between IT and clinical teams. These competencies ensure effective implementation of health IT solutions that improve patient care, data accuracy, and organizational efficiency.

What are some common challenges faced by medical informatics consultants when implementing new healthcare technologies in clinical settings?

Medical Informatics Consultants often encounter challenges such as resistance to change from clinical staff, integration issues with existing electronic health record (EHR) systems, and ensuring data privacy and regulatory compliance. Navigating these obstacles requires strong communication skills, a collaborative approach with multidisciplinary teams, and a solid understanding of both clinical workflows and healthcare IT standards. Successful consultants proactively address concerns through training, stakeholder engagement, and ongoing support to ensure smooth adoption and optimal utilization of new technologies.

Job description

Overview

As a member of our Sales Strategy and Operations team, you will have an integral role in driving the insights, operations, and strategy that enables Sales to run better, faster, and smarter. Sales Strategy and Operations is an excellent platform to learn how a business really runs.ย ย

You will be joining the Sales Strategy and Operations team as a high-impact contributor, gaining exposure to a wide variety of challenges, processes, and data that makes the engine of this Sales organization hum. As an Associate on the team, you will lead cross-functional initiatives from ideation to analytics to recommendations to drive impact across the sales organization.

Why the data team?ย

Data is the foundation of our go-to-market strategy. It supports all parts of our sales motion, including:ย

  • Populating and maintaining an accurate universe of buyersย
  • Segmenting our sales team and defining sales representative patchesย
  • Identifying and facilitating key growth opportunities, e.g., entering markets in previously untapped geographiesย
  • Creating customer profiles to identify and target high value buyers

We recognize the importance of data to our scalability and success, and we aim to make it a core competency of our business.ย

What You'll Do
  • Design a global data structure: design and manage data core to the success of our 500+ member sales team. Define a multi-source data structure that solves for both business priorities (update cadence, quality thresholds) and technical constraints.ย
  • Source and evaluate vendors: conduct market analyses to compare vendor capabilities to satisfy key business requirements; work with marketers and sales teams to evaluate vendor quality and present recommendations to the leadership team.ย
  • Improve data quality and value: identify opportunities to use data to grow revenue. Find new methods for lead generation. Increase sales prospecting efficiency by improving the accuracy of our data.ย

... and more!ย

Requirements
  • Technical skills and previous exposure to SQL and/or Python/Pandas is required. Brownie points for advanced proficiency.
  • You're a high-impact self-starter: You take initiative to move projects forward and operate with high autonomy. You can take multiple different sources and products and "plumb" them together to make new tools quickly.
  • You bridge the gap between the technical and the non-technical. You can translate a sales rep's "wish list" into technical requirements for engineers and then explain the results back to a business audience.
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in data analytics, product management, or high-impact consulting.
  • Academic Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical or quantitative discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or Economics) is a plus.
