Overview
The Research and Development Engineer, at MED Institute, will be responsible for application of engineering principles to research and develop various medical devices, based on client needs. These responsibilities include completing project deliverables and tasks to support the evaluation of medical devices and creation of novel medical device concepts through collaboration with external clients and, upon request, with other Cook companies.
Responsibilities
  • Understand client expectations while driving toward scientific excellence.
  • Interact with management, technical leadership and clients to plan, complete, analyze and report results of experiments, tests, prototype development, literature reviews, etc.
  • Assure that project deliverables and tasks are technically excellent and completed in a timely fashion.
  • Document deliverables.
  • Assure that appropriate documentation is kept detailing project history (reports, laboratory notebooks, invention disclosures, scientific literature, meeting notes, deliverables, etc.).
  • Maintain and develop the technical capabilities necessary to provide technical solutions to clients.
  • Understand the intellectual property process and how it is established, harvested, characterized, and protected.

Qualifications
  • Technical skills and knowledge: BS (or advanced degree) in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Aided Engineering, Biology or Physiology, or equivalent experience.
  • Innovative: Proven ability to innovate in the development of novel concepts and creating solutions to technical problems with an eye toward providing practical solutions in a timely manner.
  • Task Oriented: Demonstrated knowledge and ability to plan, prioritize, and coordinate the completion of deliverables and tasks.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to effectively communicate and constructively collaborate with colleagues.
  • Professionalism: The ability to remain professional and positive in all personal interactions, and provide an example of good work ethic, a willingness to help, and personal discipline in achieving goals
