Job Description

Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) work with internal and external customers as field-based scientific and clinical experts who strategically support dissemination of medical scientific information. MSLs function asa regionalmedical contact between the organization and key external customers to further scientific exchange. This role provides product and field scientific support to Medical Affairs, Sales, Marketing, and Managed Markets byutilizingacademic credentials, clinical knowledge, and scientificexpertisein infection prevention to communicate with healthcare providers, academic researchers, and organizations. These relationships ensure that key opinion leaders and organizations have access to relevant scientific information, and that insights gathered externally will be communicated to key cross-functional partners internally. The MSL should have an in-depth understanding of infection prevention, the surgical setting, disease state awareness, the current/future treatment landscape, and ongoing clinical trials/research.

Territory to include: Arkansas (AR), Illinois (IL), Indiana (IN), Iowa (IA), Kansas (KS), Louisiana (LA), Michigan (MI), Minnesota (MN), Missouri (MO), Nebraska (NE), North Dakota (ND), Oklahoma (OK), South Dakota (SD), Texas (TX), Wisconsin (WI)

Responsibilities:

  • Establish andmaintaincredible peer-to-peer scientific relationships with national/regional key opinion leaders (KOLs) and customers.

  • Implement strategic, scientific, and educational initiatives to achieve Medical and Commercialobjectives.

  • Serve as the primary resource for clinical and scientific information to external HCPs (Healthcare Professionals) for key BD (Becton Dickinson) surgeons.

  • Care product areas include Antiseptic products, biosurgery (hemostatic agents) hair removal,ChloraPrep, and surgical irrigation.

  • Develop education and training programs to improve patient outcomes and increase understanding of breast surgery and treatment options.

  • Work with BD IP/Biosurgery Sales Consultants, BD Institutional Representatives, and BD Retail Representatives to execute educational presentations andobjectives.

  • Interact with various customer segments via one-on-one interactions, small group discussions, formulary review committees, and educational symposium presentations.

  • Attend assigned scientific and medical congresses to capture information relevant to the organization's scientific platforms and report this information to internal stakeholders during debrief meetings.

  • AssistinfacilitatingKOL (Key Opinion Leader) involvement in national, regional, and local educational forums including advisory boards, investigator meetings, educational symposia, and sponsored promotional programs.

  • Assistin the identification of investigators and sites for company-sponsored clinical trials.

  • Maintain a thorough and detailed working knowledge of the organization and its products, current scientific research, and publications.

  • Deploy a blend of proactive (planned educational sessions, advisory boards, congress symposia) and reactive (data inquiry response, ad hoc consultation) engagement tactics.

  • Use diverse engagement channels: in-person or virtual KOL meetings, collaborative research, educational events, surgical congresses, and digital platforms.

  • Collect, document, and communicate insights from stakeholder interactions to internal teams, continually refining the overall medical strategy and supporting leadership in plastic and reconstructive surgery therapeutics.

  • Maintain strict compliance and ethical standards, ensuring clear separation between scientific engagement and promotional activity.

  • Track engagement activities against established benchmarks; assess and adapt engagement impact and tactics to maximize value.

  • Foster and sustain long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with stakeholders by serving as a scientific expert and advancing clinical knowledge.

  • Additionalduties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • MD, PharmD, PhD, PA or RN with clinical experience preferred.
  • 3-5 years of field based MSL experience and/or 3-5 years of work experience in the medical device or pharmaceutical industry required.
  • Clinical experience in surgery space desired.
  • Demonstrates ability to present approved scientific data to HCPs in both group and individual settings.
  • Ability to interpret complicated clinical and pre-clinical data.
  • Utilization of effective communication to adjust for multiple communication styles.
  • Ability to identify unmet medical, educational, and research needs within the medical community.
  • Knowledge of the US Healthcare System and the pharmaceutical/medical device industry, including relevant laws (OIG), regulations (FDA (Food and Drug Administration), and ethical standards (ACCME, PhRMA) which apply to interactions with HCPs, payers, and industry representatives.
  • Knowledge of clinical trial design and process.
  • Understands the US healthcare system, medical practice, and clinical decision making regarding intraoperative care for the patient undergoing surgery.
  • Demonstrates ability to develop trust and integrity with peers, and others within the US and Worldwide BD Medical Affairs and Commercial organizations.
  • Travel: 75% travel, including overnight stays.
