Job description

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Hybrid OR Surgical and/or Interventional
Technologist to join our team in a dynamic Hybrid OR environment. The ideal candidate will
support a wide range of surgical, endovascular, and interventional imaging-based procedures
while maintaining the highest standards of safety, quality, sterility, and patient care.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Regularly performs the duties and responsibilities of a surgical and endovascular technologist. Sets up sterile trays with all supplies and instruments required for procedures; Prepares and drapes surgical site; Assists surgeon in the placement of guide wires and catheters.
  2. Develops expertise in the functioning, use, and maintenance of equipment and instruments used with Surgical, Endovascular, Hybrid, and Imaging Based Procedures. Ensures equipment is available and works properly and performs minor repairs as needed.
  3. Assists other members of the team in the use of equipment used in Vascular, Endovascular and Imaging Based Procedures. Demonstrates equipment use to physicians upon request.
  4. Inventories stock, identifies deficiencies, and recommends equipment orders to Coordinator.
  5. In collaboration with the Coordinator, meets with medical device representatives for procedural competencies regarding new equipment and procedural concepts.
  6. Scrubs with new physicians to learn their procedural techniques and preferences. Records information for future reference.
  7. Achieves and maintains the Surgical, Endovascular and Imaging Based Procedures competencies.
  8. Assists with the preparation and administration of intravenous contrast under the direction of the surgeon.
  9. Performs duties of a Second Assistant as needed.
  10. Assists the team during Surgical, Endovascular and Imaging Based Procedures as assigned, including operating the Hybrid OR/ physiologic monitoring equipment during the procedure and obtains data, and enters data in the computer.
  11. Demonstrates technical expertise in catheter- based diagnostic and interventional, as well as open procedures. 
  12. Must be available for call with a 45-minute arrival time, and otherwise adheres to the Endovascular call guidelines.
  13. Practices proper safety techniques in accordance with hospital and departmental policies and procedures. Immediately reports any mechanical or electrical equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions, or employee/patient/visitor injuryaccident to Coordinator or assigned Charge RN.
  14. Assists in the ongoing development and administration of hospital and department Quality Improvement program.
  15. Completes scheduled didactic, simulation, and hands-on education for Endovascular and Imaging Based Procedures. Personnel as necessary, serves as a preceptor as needed.
  16. Post-processes all procedural imaging with proper annotation and markers.  Sends all appropriate imaging to the PACS and ensures that medical records are complete regarding organizational compliance.
  17. Attend in-services/educational opportunities to enhance skills/patient care abilities as scheduled
  18. Assists in the performance of special projects/duties as requested and according to established time frames.
  19. Implements defined infection control procedures.
  20. Carries out medical/surgical asepsis during procedures. Anticipates the needs of the physician. Accurately completes procedure room counts (instruments, sponges and sharps) follows proper procedures in the event of an incorrect count. Reports all discrepancies to the circulating nurse and physician and/or corrects immediately.
  21. Demonstrates ability to organize work and manage time effectively by completing assignments/cases in the allotted time.

EVOR - Gwinnett

1.      Competently supports both endovascular procedures and open vascular surgical procedures, with the ability to convert from endovascular to open surgical procedures as needed

2.      Assists in vascular interventions that are required outside of the OR, e.g. emergent vascular consults in Cath lab

3.      Coordinates supply needs and helps direct non-EVOR staff in emergent endovascular procedures

4.      Maintains knowledge of, and proficiency with, all wires, stents, balloons, grafts and other specialty endovascular products; manages product assembly and validation processes under the supervision of the physician

 ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Other duties as assigned by supervision.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIRED

 

  1. Must possess either of the following:
    1. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
    2. Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS)
    3. Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES)
    4. Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA)
    5. Technologist in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) through the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
  2. One (1) year of experience as a Surgical Technologist or two (2) years as a Radiologic Technologist, or one (1) year as a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) 
  3. Must hold American Heart Association Basic Life Support

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES/LICENSE OR CERTIFICATION PREFERRED

  1. Minimum of four (4) years recent experience with scrubbing and assisting surgical, endovascular, angiography procedures.
  2. Advanced credentialing/certification such as Vascular Intervention (VI), Cardiac Intervention (CI), or cardiovascular (CV) through the ARRT.
  3. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  4. Supported procedures including cardiac catheterization, electrophysiology studies, device implants, and interventional radiology cases
