Job description

Join a Team Where Your Expertise Impacts Lives: Medical Coding Specialist

Camber Mental Health, a subsidiary of KVC Health Systems, is seeking a dedicated Medical Coding Specialist to serve as our resident subject matter expert. If you are a certified professional looking to apply your skills in a high-impact behavioral health setting, we invite you to join an organization that prioritizes authenticity, compassion, and innovation.

At KVC and Camber, we believe the heart of our work is helping people. Our commitment to our staff is reflected in our Indeed Work Wellbeing score of 83, demonstrating our dedication to a supportive and fulfilling professional environment.

The Role

As the Medical Coding Specialist, you will ensure the integrity of patient records by accurately assigning diagnostic and procedural codes. Your work is vital to maintaining regulatory compliance and ensuring proper insurance reimbursement, directly supporting our ability to provide high-quality care to children and families. You will serve as a bridge between psychiatric providers and our Revenue Cycle Department, providing essential training and identifying trends to optimize fiscal accountability.

This is a hybrid position that offers professional flexibility while maintaining vital team connections. The successful candidate must be local to the Kansas City/Missouri area to meet the requirement of being on-site at least once per month and to accommodate occasional travel between local departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate complex medical and psychiatric data into accurate CPT, ICD-10-CM, and HCPCS Level II codes.
  • Collaborate with clinical providers to enhance coding practices and ensure professional standards and federal requirements are met.
  • Partner with Revenue Cycle Management to resolve billing disputes, minimize claim denials, and accelerate payment cycles.
  • Maintain strict patient confidentiality while serving as a resource for multi-departmental teams.
  • Utilize EHR and HRIS tools to track data, report on coding trends, and monitor payer guidelines.
Qualifications
  • Location: Must be local to the Kansas City, MO metropolitan area.
  • Certification: Must hold at least one of the following: Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Inpatient Coder (CIC), or Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA).
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s degree in Health Administration, Business, or related human services preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of medical coding experience, specifically within a hospital or healthcare setting.
  • Preferred Skills: Two or more years of experience in behavioral health or psychiatric coding. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Electronic Health Records is essential.
  • Requirements: Must be at least 20 years of age, possess a valid driver’s license, and maintain auto insurance. Ability to work on-site at least once monthly and handle occasional day/overnight travel is required.
Why KVC?

We are a team that values diverse perspectives and solutions-focused collaboration. Our culture is driven by family connection and the urgency to innovate in the mental health field. When you join Camber Mental Health, you are joining a network of professionals who are role models in their communities and champions for the wellbeing of those we serve.
