SSTAR is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) which affords our employees eligibility to apply for one of our three Loan Repayment Programs.
The Medical Assistant Mobile/ Outreach Worker conducts outreach among vulnerable populations, provides harm reduction services, and assists Provider to meet clients' medical needs both on the medical RV and in the community.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Assist providers and nurses to perform medical care.
  • Works across a variety of settings, including the medical RV, in the community, and onsite at the clinic.
  • Take vital signs and assist with coordinating care to ensure patient-driven encounters.
  • Respond to & facilitates clinical tasks and supports providers and nurses.
  • Respond to incoming patient calls & messages for clinical review by provider/nurse.
  • Interview clients to determine their level of knowledge, attitudes, and behavior regarding hepatitis C, STI's, substance use, and harm reduction.
  • Provide overdose education and distribute naloxone to both clients and the community.
  • Conduct outreach in the community setting and build relationships with local venues.
  • Assess potential barriers to care and work with clients to reduce obstacles resulting from lack of transportation, mental illness, substance use, etc.
  • Develop appropriate client referrals internally and externally to the organization.
  • Collect data on program activities, enter data timely, and accurately into data systems.
  • Attend relevant training courses and participate in regional meetings as assigned.
  • Stay informed about current HIV/HCV/STI/SUD trends, development, and research, as it pertains to scope of practice.
  • Flexible with role to be able to assist team.
  • Adheres to the work schedule. Obtains supervisor approval in advance of schedule conflicts as well as late arrivals or early departures.
  • Records all hours worked by the last day of the pay period.
  • Responds appropriately to all Code Calls
  • Follows the incident reporting policy and procedure in reporting any unsafe/unusual safety issues.
  • Treats patients, and colleagues with dignity and respect; honors each person's right to privacy/ maintains strict patient and colleague confidentiality.
  • Timely completes all trainings, certifications and licensing renewals requirements.
  • Maintains current awareness of SSTAR's communications by checking, reviewing and responding to work emails at minimum on a weekly basis. Asks for assistance when needing help or to fully understand the email message.
  • Responsible for van maintenance checks & inventory checks
  • Responsible for providing peer support, cross-training, and orientation to Medical Assistants and other relevant SSTAR employees.

Experience and Skills
Education & Experience
  • Accredited school certification for Medical Assistant.
  • RMA certified, OR able to pass the exam within 90 days of hire (SSTAR covers the fee).
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Driver's license
  • Sensitivity to HIV issues, people with substance use disorders, individuals experiencing homelessness, and people with disabilities.
  • Strong desire to work with people from diverse backgrounds, cultures, and lifestyles in a non-judgmental manner is required.
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of substance use disorder are preferred.
  • Flexibility with schedule preferred.
