Strong attention to detail and knowledge of medical terminology and billing procedures are crucial for success in this role.

What does a medical billing assistant do?

A medical billing assistant works for a healthcare provider in their billing department. Primary job duties include billing insurance companies or patients for medical services or procedures. Duties may also include making insurance claims, sending bills to patients, and arranging collections. Familiarity with billing software such as Medisoft or Kareo, as well as knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding systems, is typically required. Attention to detail, organizational skills, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for resolving claim issues and interacting with healthcare providers.
