Job description

Reviews and interprets medical documentation to determine billable charges within the surgical services departments.  Assists the surgical services areas in maintaining and developing necessary charges.  Ensures accurate billing of surgical patients.  Works collaboratively with Finance, Billing, Purchasing, and Information Services.

 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

1.        Reviews medical documentation and billable charges.  Adjusts the patient's detailed charges to correspond with the documentation.

2.        Provides timely communication to surgical services management staff regarding charging and documentation issues.

3.        Perform daily charge audit between Surgical Services application and Finance system.  Will reconcile patient charges to ensure completed and accurate patient bills.

4.        Participates in external reviews to ensure accuracy of the billing and to support McLaren-Macomb charges.

5.        Participates in random audit surveys of revenue producing areas to determine the accuracy of billed charges.

6.        Assist in creating McLaren Macomb's written guidelines to ensure consistent and accurate billed charges.

7.        Works directly with Patient Financial Services regarding billing concerns.

8.        Responsible for maintaining an ethical audit environment.

9.        Coordinates the audit process for concurrent audits and special request audits.

10.      Performs other related job duties as requested.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Degree/Diploma
  • Two years of experience in healthcare setting

Preferred:

  • Associates degree in health sciences or related field
  • Two years of prior auditing/billing experience
  • EMR/Cerner experience preferred
