Duties and Responsibilities
  • Room patients, obtain vital signs, and assist patient in and out of the clinic as needed
  • Perform patient assessments and reassessments with in scope of practice under supervision or RN and/or provider
  • Ensure patient needs are consistently met, consulting with health team members as appropriate
  • Act promptly and effectively in emergency situations
  • Chaperone providers during examinations and assist with procedures
  • Administer medications and injections with accurate documentation
  • Perform clinical procedures including EKGs, nebulizer treatments, fingerstick glucose testing urinalysis, and fecal occult blood testing with accurate documentation
  • Apply appropriate pain management techniques and educate patients and families with accurate documentation
  • Provide age- appropriate care based on established standards
  • Schedule patient appointments and imaging studies in accordance with clinic policy
  • Coordinate referrals to specialists and other healthcare providers
  • Obtain insurance pre-authorizations as required
  • Communicate patient information via phone to providers in a timely and accurate manner
  • Call in prescription refills as authorized by providers
  • Review physician orders and carry out new orders accurately
  • Ensure all assigned tasks and responsibilities are completed by the end of each workday
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and organized patient rooms
  • Assist with inspection, cleaning, maintenance, and quality control of patient care equipment
  • Ensure proper storage and handling of medications and biologicals
  • Identify and report compliance concerns through appropriate channels
  • Schedule and document patient appointments according to policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the office manager or provider
