Located onsite at our modern Salem, VA facility, our medical practice offers a vibrant atmosphere conducive to teamwork and collaboration. The Medical Assistant will work Monday to Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with the possibility of occasional evenings or weekends for special events or emergencies. You will thrive in a fast-paced outpatient clinic focusing on several medical specialties, including internal medicine, family medicine, and pediatrics.

• Perform a variety of administrative tasks, including managing patient appointments, ensuring timely updates to electronic health records (EHR), and maintaining accurate medical documentation.
• Greet patients in a warm and friendly manner, gather comprehensive medical histories, and ensure their comfort as you prepare them for examinations or treatments.
• Assist physicians during patient exams, procedures, and minor surgeries, demonstrating knowledge of medical equipment and maintaining a sterile workspace.
• Collect and prepare specimens for laboratory testing, ensuring meticulous labeling and documentation according to established protocols.
• Administer medications, including injections, under direct physician supervision, focusing on patient safety and adherence to medical guidelines.
• Conduct basic laboratory tests such as blood glucose monitoring, urinalysis, and EKGs, and accurately document and communicate results to healthcare teams.
• Educate patients on medication use, procedural guidelines, and general health advice, fostering effective communication to enhance patient understanding.
• Carry out routine patient care tasks such as measuring vital signs, height, and weight; appropriately documenting patient information to ensure the highest level of accuracy.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in exam rooms, including sterilizing instruments and managing inventory levels of medical supplies efficiently.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary healthcare professionals to provide coordinated care and contribute to comprehensive treatment plans for patients.

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED) with a preference for candidates who have completed an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) through a recognized certifying body such as the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or as a Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT).
• Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and pharmacology, supporting the delivery of healthcare services.
• Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems and related medical software to ensure accurate patient documentation.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills that facilitate effective interaction with patients, physicians, and the healthcare team.
• Ability to multitask, prioritize effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high standard of performance.

• Prior experience in a medical assistant role, particularly within a dermatological or outpatient clinic setting, is highly desirable.
• Experience with patient care coordination and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team enhances your effectiveness in this role.

Optum Dermatology offers a competitive salary ranging from USD 35,000 to 45,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
