Job description

SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant supports physicians in delivering high-quality patient care while providing exceptional customer service to patients and supporting the overall practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with direct patient care procedures and related clinical tasks, including lab tracking and data entry, document management, obtaining patient histories and vital signs, verifying medication lists, preparing charts, and completing pre-visit planning.
  • Perform routine clinical procedures, including EKGs, rapid strep testing, urine dip testing, spirometry, nebulizer treatments, and other procedures as required.
  • Administer injections, including vaccines and medications, as directed.
  • Educate and advise patients regarding specified medical conditions and health-related concerns within established guidelines and scope of practice.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and track STAT patient referrals and insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Monitor work quality reports and follow up on identified gaps in care to support consistent quality outcomes.
  • Maintain appropriate stock levels of medications and medical supplies.
  • Monitor and document vaccine refrigeration temperatures in accordance with Department of Health regulations.
  • Follow established safety, environmental, and infection-control practices.
  • Comply with OSHA, Department of Health, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and all applicable federal and state confidentiality laws.
  • Adhere to Brown Health Medical Group Primary Care guidelines for protecting patients' demographic, clinical, and financial information.
  • Provide superior customer service and outstanding patient care.
  • Attend meetings, workshops, and training sessions related to the position, clinical responsibilities, and office workflows.
  • Perform other miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSBasic Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduate of a formal Medical Assistant training program of at least nine months or a minimum of three years of Medical Assistant experience in a comparable ambulatory healthcare setting within the last five years.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ability to use a personal computer, scanner, electronic medical record (EMR), and other applicable software applications.
  • Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors, and colleagues in a professional manner.
  • Ability to remain calm and respond effectively in emergency situations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients across the lifespan, taking into consideration aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns throughout the care process.
Experience
  • Three years of experience as a Medical Assistant within the last five years in an ambulatory healthcare setting or recent graduation from a formal Medical Assistant training program of at least nine months within the past two to three years.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and appointment scheduling software preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Work is performed in a healthcare environment, including physicians' offices, acute care facilities, and ancillary healthcare settings.
  • Position involves regular use of medical equipment and direct patient contact.
  • Potential workplace hazards are minimized through adherence to established safety procedures and precautions, including the use of appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing.
  • Requires intermittent standing and walking throughout the workday.
  • May involve exposure to electrical and other equipment-related hazards.
  • May require lifting and positioning patients.
