Medical Assistant

Job Overview

The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the clinic team, responsible for creating a positive patient experience while supporting efficient clinic operations. This role involves patient intake, clinical support, vaccination administration, front-office assistance, and maintaining compliance with HIPAA and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Care & Clinical Support

  • Room patients and assist providers during patient visits.
  • Accurately collect patient histories, vital signs, and specimens for testing.
  • Prepare, administer, and provide education regarding vaccinations.
  • Deliver high-quality patient care and ensure a positive patient experience.
  • Maintain current clinical knowledge and patient counseling skills.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Register and check in patients efficiently and courteously.
  • Answer incoming calls, take messages, and provide general information.
  • Assist patients with insurance, co-payments, billing inquiries, and service charges.
  • Maintain accurate records within Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
  • Support workflow efficiency and operational excellence throughout the clinic.

Inventory & Compliance

  • Order and maintain adequate clinical supplies.
  • Complete Point-of-Care (POC) testing controls as required.
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and protect patient information.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in community outreach initiatives and support practice growth efforts.


Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Current Medical Assistant Certification.
  • Active BLS Certification.
  • Ability to administer vaccinations and educate patients.
  • Experience collecting patient histories, vital signs, and specimens.
  • Proficiency in EMR systems, preferably Epic.
  • Understanding of health insurance terminology and billing processes.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout the clinic during shifts.


Preferred Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of Medical Assistant experience preferred.
  • Experience in:
    • Primary Care
    • Urgent Care
    • Family Practice
    • Emergency Room settings
  • Experience with Epic EMR preferred.


Education

  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required.

Schedule

  • Shifts may range from 7 to 10 hours per day.
  • Schedules are created in six-week blocks.
  • Requires availability to work every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday).
  • May require working select holidays.
  • Clinic operating hours may include:
    Monday - Friday: 8:30 AM - 1:30 PM / 2:30 PM - 7:30 PM
    Saturday: 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM / 2:00 PM - 5:30 PM
    Sunday: 9:00 AM - 1:30 PM / 2:00 PM - 4:30 PM
