Temporary Contract Assignment (Up to 6 Months)

This is a temporary contract position expected to last up to six (6) months. Based on performance, business needs, and position availability, there may be an opportunity for conversion to a regular long-term role within Inova-GoHealth Urgent Care.

Shift Availability

Candidates must be available to work between the hours of 8:00 AM and 10:00 PM, including a combination of the following shifts based on business needs:

  • 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM
  • 10:00 AM - 10:00 PM
  • 8:00 AM - 10:00 PM

Position Summary

The Medical Assistant - Float (Temporary Contract) plays a key role in supporting both clinical and front-office operations across multiple urgent care centers. This position works closely with providers to deliver high-quality patient care while ensuring efficient clinic flow and an exceptional patient experience.

This temporary assignment is expected to last up to six months and offers valuable experience within a leading urgent care organization. High-performing team members may be considered for future permanent opportunities as they become available.

Key Responsibilities
  • Register patients and collect demographic, insurance, and eligibility information
  • Process co-pays and assist with patient scheduling
  • Prepare patients for examinations and accurately document medical histories
  • Obtain and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, height, and weight
  • Perform point-of-care testing, including:
    • Flu testing
    • Strep testing
    • Urinalysis
    • EKGs
    • Pregnancy testing
  • Communicate test results to providers
  • Perform venipuncture and prepare laboratory specimens
  • Clean, prepare, and stock examination rooms
  • Monitor and maintain medical supplies and inventory
  • Complete accurate and timely EMR documentation
  • Support front desk operations, patient communication, and phone management
  • Conduct patient follow-up calls as directed
  • Perform opening and closing clinic duties, including cash handling and reconciliation
  • Conduct equipment checks, quality control procedures, and basic troubleshooting
  • Adhere to all clinical, safety, compliance, and operational policies
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of 1 year of Medical Assistant experience required
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required at time of hire
    • Certification must be obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability and willingness to float between assigned centers within the market
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assisting program
  • Experience in:
    • Urgent Care
    • Emergency Department
    • Hospital setting
  • Prior patient registration or front desk experience
Certification Requirements

Candidates with fewer than three (3) years of Medical Assistant experience must:

  • Hold an approved Medical Assistant certification, or
  • Obtain certification within twelve (12) months of hire

Accepted certifications include:

  • CCMA - Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (NHA)
  • CMA - Certified Medical Assistant (AAMA or CHP)
  • RMA - Registered Medical Assistant (AMT, AAH, or ARMA)
  • NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NCCT)
  • NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
Alternative Qualifications

Candidates may be considered without a Medical Assistant certification at the time of hire if they possess:

  • Three (3) or more years of Medical Assistant experience, and
  • One (1) or more years of experience in an Urgent Care, Emergency Department, or Hospital setting
Additional Accepted Credentials

The following credentials may be accepted in lieu of a Medical Assistant certification:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Paramedic
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
Additional Requirements
  • CPOE (Computerized Provider Order Entry) certification must be obtained within two (2) weeks of the start date
