Job description

Position Summary:

Registers patients, verifies insurance and general information, makes any necessary changes. Schedules patient appointments for providers, performs canceling of appointment as needed. Additional responsible includes assisting the provider and other ancillary administrative staff with basic office medical functions to ensure a coordinated approach to patient activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Medical Receptionist Duties

1)    Performs clerical work consisting of: referrals, scheduling appointments, triaging phone calls, and filing.

2)    Registers patients upon arrival and obtains relevant insurance information.

3)    Checks patients out after appointment and collects payment or bills insurance as needed.

4)    Schedules appointments according to provider's specifications both at the reception desk and on the telephone.

5)    Prints appointment memos off the system, per provider schedule.

6)    Answers all calls in a prompt, courteous manner. Addresses concerns of the caller, transfers phone calls, or takes messages as needed.

7)    Checks the system for patient's account status, if needed.

8)    Prints off provider schedules for next day and gives to the nurses.

9)    Provides information and answers questions for patient and providers.

10) Processes, sorts, and distributes mail.

11) Ensures and directly handles the timely mailing of patient recall notices and response billings.

12) Balances cash drawer, prepares deposit slip at end of day.

13) Performs filing of all reports, charts, and letters, and makes sure forms are filled out completely and properly.

Medical Assistant Duties

1)    Works collaboratively with provider in delivering patient care. Obtains history of patient complaints, prepares patient for exam and takes vital signs.

2)    Functions collaboratively with all staff to ensure continuity of care.

3)    Assists provider with exam paperwork and procedures as needed.

4)    Gives injections, draws blood and performs various diagnostic testing: EKG, PFT, etc.

5)    Stocks rooms, takes care of instruments and autoclaves.

6)    Calls patients or pharmacies as instructed by the physician for prescription renewal.

7)    Relays laboratory or radiology orders from the provider or nurses to the patient when he or she comes in for tests.

8)    Performs other duties as assigned/directed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma
  • Graduate of approved program for Medical Assistant or 1 year of equivalent experience.
  • Previous customer service experience. 
  • Previous medical office experience.

Preferred: 

One year experience in a health care setting
