General Nature of Work

The Medical Assistant (MA) is an integral member of our dermatology health care team who functions under the day-to-day supervision of the physician. The medical assistant assists patients, PA's and other (MA's) in delivering quality care to patients according to Marietta Dermatology standards, Georgia Department of Health Services requirements, and OSHA regulations. This position functions as a link between the physician and the patient by obtaining a thorough patient history, taking vital signs, assisting with coordination of care, and maintaining a positive and efficient patient experience during the office visit. ย 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Assists Physicians/PA's with patient office visits which include, rooming patients, scribes note for Physician/PA's and interviews patients, recording vital signs including pulse rate, blood pressure, height and weight, prepare specimens for lab work, obtain consents and enter all medical history in patient electronic medical record.ย 

Assists Physicians/PA's with biopsiesย 

Under Physician supervision, may perform photodynamic light therapy and chemical peels

Reviews charts for completeness ensuring all required information is included; notes any deficiencies and utilizes all resources internal as well as external

Organizes exam rooms, including general cleaning, upkeep, and re-stocking of supplies

Performs administrative tasks, including form completions, prescription refills, referrals and patient educational material

Scans all pertinent information into the electronic health record system

Demonstrates appropriate hand washing techniques to ensure proper infection control and follows universal precautions

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errorsย 

Demonstrates appropriate use of Red Bag Waste

Manages autoclave and cleaning instruments for Dermatologyย 

Answers phones, takes messages and troubleshoots patient callsย 

Assists with scheduling, rescheduling, and confirming appointments

Obtains prior authorizations and lab workย 

Responsible for medication managementย 

Verifies all patient demographics

Assists in the ordering, receiving, and stocking of office suppliesย 

Assists with other related front desk clerical duties such as photo copying, faxing, scanning, collating, and mailingย 

Additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare as a Medical Assistant preferredย 
  • Medical office front desk experience preferred
  • Must be able to communicate effectively with physician, patients, co-workers, vendors, and the publicย 
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant preferred
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
  • Prior experience using autoclave and cleaning of instrumentsย 
  • Detail oriented/critical thinking and able to handle multiple tasks.

Physical Requirements: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station.

Work Environment: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
