Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review complex federal and state tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, and estates, including multi-state returns.
  • Provide advanced tax planning, research, and strategic consulting to help clients optimize their tax positions.
  • Conduct paid tax consultations with clients, explaining tax positions, planning opportunities, and compliance requirements in a clear and professional manner.
  • Ensure full compliance with US federal, state, and local tax laws, including timely filings, estimated payments, extensions, and quarterly projections.
  • Respond to client inquiries and notices from taxing authorities; support IRS, state, and local examinations by gathering documentation and preparing responses.
  • Review tax returns prepared by junior staff and provide technical guidance, feedback, and mentorship.
  • Research complex tax issues, monitor regulatory changes, and apply updated regulations appropriately to client situations.
  • Maintain accurate, organized client tax files, documentation, and workpapers using tax and accounting software.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to support accounting, advisory, payroll, or operations teams during off-peak periods or as business needs arise.
  • Identify opportunities to improve tax preparation workflows and contribute to process and efficiency improvements.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment while delivering high-quality client service.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • CPA license required.
  • 4-5+ years of tax preparation and tax planning experience, preferably in public accounting.
  • Strong experience preparing and reviewing individual and business tax returns.
  • Previous experience in full-cycle accounting or bookkeeping a strong plus.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal and state income tax laws; international tax exposure is a big plus.
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks and tax software such as UltraTax (or similar).
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Dependable, self-driven, and able to work independently and stay on task.
  • Positive, team-oriented personality with the ability to mentor junior staff.
