The Strategic Account Executive, Specialty Benefits will ensure retention and growth of existing business; and successful on-boarding of new specialty product customers (dental, vision, life, disability, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity and FMLA).  This position involves extensive interaction with clients, brokers, UHC and UnitedHealth Care functional areas to implement and manage accounts. The Strategic Account Executive will service clients who have Specialty Benefits in force.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Forge relationships with key customers and consultants, and act as main Specialty Benefits contact for UnitedHealthcare, and be the lead representative of UnitedHealthcare for stand-alone accounts
  • Develop and monitor client financial performance, including renewal planning and negotiation
  • Participate actively in renewal business proposal activity, profiling the group, requesting underwriting or other data necessary to perform reliable, defensible prospect case calculations for pricing and quoting to renew customers year over year in the 51 lives segment
  • Clearly demonstrate the value propositions for specialty and ancillary business to improve customer growth and retention
  • Secure new business through marketing and effective product and service expansion
  • Exceed objectives for customer and broker satisfaction, persistency, and for developing new business with existing accounts
  • Perform a variety of account management functions related to the continued growth, profitability, and retention of quality business and development of solid relationships with key producers
  • Partner with Medical Account Team on shared customers
  • Be a subject matter expert of Specialty products, service and technology for customers and brokers
  • Perform customer service responsibilities including, by not limited to, information correspondence with producers, communications with home office staff in answering questions, negotiating rates, or providing case information, expedition materials (i.e., applications, disclosures, etc.) needed to manage the established book of business, and gathering reliable date for underwriting
  • Demonstrate sales, marketing, and technical expertise in customer and broker meetings
  • Work with Account Executives to help win new business and to participate in finalist presentations and Key RFP activity
  • Add value to sales and account management process by coordinating telephone discussions, face-to-face meetings, scheduling quarterly and annual meetings, and preparation/distribution of account reports, as requested.
  • Develop relationship with producers to assist in up sell opportunities as directed by sales staff
  • Responsible for implementation and ongoing service for new customers, specifically specialty product stand-alone customers. - Responsible for account management across a specific region
  • Create and support the implementation of strategic plan for assigned region
  • Support and participate in Sales presentations and processes
  • Responsible for training and updating information related to customers across organization
  • Measure and report on persistency rates and issues associated with region

Required Qualifications: 

  • 2 years of sales or account management experience within the Insurance industry
  • Experience working with brokers and consultants
  • Proven ability to present material in a group setting
  • Proven ability to work with internal and external business contacts at all levels, capable of negotiating and navigating challenging political situations
  • Proven dedicated to meeting customer expectations and requirements while maintaining balance with business requirements
  • Driver's License and access to a reliable transportation

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • 2 years of sales or account management experience required with specialty benefits products (dental, vision, life, disability, accident, critical illness, hospital indemnity and FMLA)

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). No matter where or when you begin a career with us, you'll find a far-reaching choice of benefits and incentives. The salary for this role will range from $60,000 to $130,000 annually based on full-time employment. This role is also eligible to receive bonuses based on sales performance. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
