Media Digitization information

What is the difference between Media Digitization vs Media Preservation Specialist?

AspectMedia DigitizationMedia Preservation Specialist
CredentialsDigital imaging, media handling certificationsConservation, archival, or preservation certifications
Work EnvironmentDigital labs, scanning stations, editing suitesArchives, museums, conservation labs
Industry UsageMedia companies, archives, librariesArchives, museums, cultural institutions
Primary FocusConverting analog media to digital formatsMaintaining and restoring physical media for longevity

Media Digitization involves converting physical media into digital formats for easier access and preservation. Media Preservation Specialists focus on conserving and restoring physical media to prevent deterioration. While both roles work with media preservation, digitization emphasizes creating digital copies, whereas preservation emphasizes physical media care.

What is media digitization?

Media digitization is the process of converting analog media—such as photographs, films, audio tapes, and documents—into digital formats. This process involves using specialized equipment and software to create high-quality digital copies that can be stored, accessed, and preserved more efficiently. Media digitization helps protect valuable content from deterioration, makes it easier to share and distribute, and allows for improved organization and searchability. It is essential for archival purposes, digital libraries, and adapting content for modern digital platforms.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a media digitization specialist?

To thrive as a Media Digitization Specialist, you need expertise in handling analog and digital media formats, knowledge of preservation standards, and often a background in library science or archival studies. Familiarity with digitization hardware (like scanners and audio/video converters), digital asset management systems, and relevant software such as Adobe Creative Suite is typically required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and effective communication are vital soft skills for managing large collections and collaborating with stakeholders. These abilities ensure the accurate preservation, accessibility, and integrity of valuable media assets throughout the digitization process.

What are some common challenges faced in a media digitization role, and how can they be managed effectively?

Media digitization professionals often encounter challenges such as handling delicate or deteriorating physical media, ensuring consistent quality during conversion, and managing large volumes of files with proper metadata. To address these, it's important to follow best practices in preservation, use calibrated equipment, and adhere to established workflows for file naming and archiving. Collaboration with archivists, IT specialists, and project managers can help streamline processes and resolve technical or organizational issues quickly.

Job description

Social Media & Digital Specialist
Hoselton Auto Mall | East Rochester, NY
Full-Time | $50,000-$65,000 per year

Join the Hoselton Marketing Team
Hoselton Auto Mall is looking for a creative, organized and data-driven Social Media & Digital Specialist to join our Marketing Team. This is a full-time, in-office position located at Hoselton Auto Mall in East Rochester, NY.
For more than 100 years, Hoselton has served the Rochester community as a local, family-owned automotive group. This position will help tell the Hoselton story across social media, our websites and other digital channels while supporting Hoselton Toyota, Hoselton Chevrolet, Hoselton Nissan and the Hoselton Pre-Owned Super Center.
The right candidate will enjoy the creative and analytical sides of digital marketing-from producing engaging social content to managing digital campaigns, updating websites and using performance data to improve results. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone who enjoys combining creativity, technology and analytics.
Key Responsibilities
Social Media Management and Content Creation
• Manage Hoselton's social media channels, with a primary focus on Facebook and Instagram, and maintain an organized content calendar covering vehicles, service, employees, community involvement and dealership initiatives.
• Write, create, schedule and publish engaging organic content, including graphics, photography and short-form video, that supports dealership goals and reflects Hoselton's family- and community-focused voice.
• Plan, launch and optimize Meta advertising campaigns, including audiences, budgets, creative, testing and performance reporting.
Website and Digital Experience Management
• Oversee content across six Hoselton websites and the employee intranet, ensuring information is accurate, current, customer-focused and easy to navigate.
• Use WordPress and dealership website tools to update pages, banners, forms, navigation, staff information, promotional content, monthly specials and campaign landing pages.
• Conduct routine website quality checks and coordinate corrections with digital partners while applying working knowledge of SEO, accessibility and basic HTML.
Reputation and Community Management
• Monitor and help manage customer reviews, social media comments, direct messages, mentions and questions across Google, CARFAX, Yelp, Facebook, Instagram and other priority platforms.
• Respond in a helpful, respectful and customer-focused tone, escalating concerns to the appropriate manager and coordinating follow-up when needed.
• Maintain accurate online business listings and profiles across Hoselton locations and departments.
PPC, Vendor Management and Performance Reporting
• Monitor paid media and digital performance throughout the month, working with vendors to identify practical opportunities to improve efficiency, lead volume, market share and return on investment.
• Prepare clear monthly reporting covering social media, paid media, website traffic, conversions, leads, calls and vendor performance.
Additional Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the Marketing Team, dealership departments, OEM representatives and digital partners to support promotions, campaigns, content and community initiatives.
• Stay current with automotive and digital marketing trends and share relevant opportunities with the Marketing Department Manager.
Your Must Haves
• Demonstrated experience managing social media and creating digital content.
• Strong working knowledge of Meta Business Suite and Meta Ads Manager.
• Strong writing, editing and communication skills.
• Competency with Adobe Creative Suite and short-form video editing.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and LLM-based AI tools.
• Basic familiarity with WordPress or other CMS, and HTML.
• The ability to manage multiple priorities, interpret performance data and collaborate effectively across teams.
If You Have These - Even Better!
• An associate or bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, digital media, advertising or a related field-or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience with paid search, Google Analytics, Looker Studio, SEMrush or reputation-management platforms.
• A portfolio or professional examples of social media, graphic design, video or digital marketing work.
Benefits
• Competitive pay based on experience
• Health, dental, and vision insurance
• 401(k) with company match
• Paid time off and holidays
• Employee discounts on vehicles, service, and parts
• Supportive and collaborative team environment
• Opportunity for professional growth in a stable, locally owned company
Schedule
• Monday to Friday
• Day shift
• In-office position (East Rochester, NY)
