Washtenaw Community College (WCC) is establishing a pool of qualified candidates to be considered when a Support/Student is needed for the Digital Media Arts department. Needs may become available prior to or during each semester. Upon successful submission of your application, you will be considered for future part time opportunities on a per semester basis. Position Summary:
The Part time Digital Media Arts - Support/Student provides direct support to students and faculty during Digital Media Arts classes and/or outside of the classroom in Digital Media Arts labs / centers.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Actively assist in the classroom, studio, and/or lab providing support with equipment use, workflows, and safe operation practices.
โ€ข Participate directly in equipment check-in and check-out processes, working alongside students to ensure proper handling and use.
โ€ข Guide students in selecting appropriate equipment based on assignment requirements and faculty-defined project parameters.
โ€ข Set up and tear down classrooms/labs/studios with materials, configurations, and equipment, as required by faculty.
โ€ข Learn how to perform routine preventative maintenance on lab and studio equipment to ensure functionality and longevity.
โ€ข Learn how to perform minor equipment repairs within established guidelines and report larger repair needs to the Lab Coordinator or full-time faculty.
โ€ข Assist with the setup, operation, and teardown of equipment for instructional use, projects, and scheduled activities.
โ€ข Maintain a professional on-campus presence to support students, faculty, and lab/studio operations.
โ€ข Utilize technology, including AI-enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support the effective performance of assigned duties, enhance productivity, improve communication and information management, support decision-making, and other responsibilities, while ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements, institutional policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
โ€ข Perform other related duties as assigned by full-time faculty and Lab Coordinator.
Hours/Schedule:This is a part time position that will work less than 20 hours per week-schedules can vary. Continuation of employment is reviewed at the end of each semester.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
โ€ข Knowledge of and experience with specific software, programs and equipment utilized within the classroom.
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to work successfully with diverse students of all ages, ethnicities, and backgrounds.
โ€ข Demonstrated ability to assume responsibility and work enthusiastically with minimal supervision.
โ€ข Demonstrated understanding of lab / center policies.
โ€ข Strong public service commitment and positive attitude.
โ€ข Ability to use workplace technology relevant to the position, including the capacity to learn and appropriately leverage emerging AI-supported tools. Ability to assess the accuracy and reliability of AI-generated content, maintain confidentiality, and apply sound judgment and ethical practices in the use of technology.
If candidates do not meet the minimum qualifications for student employment then they will be classified as Support Staff.
Additional Minimum Qualifications for Student Employment
โ€ข Must be currently enrolled Washtenaw Community College student pursuing a certificate or degree within the assigned area. Must have a grade "B" or better in related coursework.
โ€ข Must maintain six (6) credit hours or more during every semester worked (this includes Spring/Summer).
