Position Overview:
The Bench Technologist/Generalist is responsible for the coordination and participation of the day-to-day operations in their assigned section in the high complexity laboratory, within established federal guidelines. In the absence of the Section Supervisors, General Supervisor, Medical Laboratory Director, and Administrative Laboratory Director, the technologist may be assigned to be "in-charge" and must be accessible to testing personnel as needed to provide on-site, telephone, or electronic consultation.
Position Highlights:
  • Starting Rate: $20.11 + per hour (commensurate with experience and certification)
  • Shift Differentials: $2.50 - $5.00 per hour
  • Sign On Bonus Eligible: Up to $6,500

Key Responsibilities:
โ€ข Demonstrates required dexterity, knowledge, and skills (including strong written and verbal communication skills) necessary to perform as an independent/team member of the Granville Health System Laboratory; understanding variations in care for all age groups and complying with regulatory, safety, and infection control requirements, as well as GHS policies and procedures.
โ€ข Follows laboratory policies and procedures for: specimen collection, handling, and processing; test performance and analysis; and reporting/maintaining of patient test results for all laboratory testing (waived, moderately complex, and highly complex testing), without supervision or prior supervisory review of patient results (following demonstration and documentation of required competencies).
โ€ข Adheres to the GHS Laboratory's Quality Assurance procedures for quality control, calibrations, maintenance, proficiency testing, continuing education, and GHS mandatory online education; as well as identification, documentation, and troubleshooting of pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical problems that may affect patient results (ensuring that results are not reported until problems are resolved).
โ€ข Stocks and monitors laboratory supplies inventory, and notifies supervisors when supplies become low.
โ€ข Ensures that all laboratory processes comply with CAP guidelines and participates in laboratory inspections as needed.
โ€ข Utilizes required computer programs, software, and laboratory information systems; ensuring patient confidentiality is maintained in compliance with HIPAA at all times.
โ€ข Participates in the development, updating, and/or reviewing of laboratory procedures/policies, as assigned, for new and existing test methods.
โ€ข Participates in the evaluation, development, and/or implementation of new equipment and procedures, as assigned, making recommendations for quality improvement as appropriate.
โ€ข Participates in the training of students, new hires, and other employees.
โ€ข Assists in monitoring workflow and staffing levels; and notifies supervisors/Administrative Laboratory Director of staffing problems to ensure adequate staffing for the laboratory.
โ€ข Participates in special tasks/projects as assigned by the Section Supervisor, General Supervisor, or Administrative Laboratory Director.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science/medical technology; or
Associate degree in a laboratory science or medical technology.
Laboratory Generalist experience is preferred.
Phlebotomy training/experience preferred.
