Job Description
Guilford Technical Community College (GTCC) is currently the fourth largest of NC. Community College System's 58 institutions. On our six campuses and through our online offerings, we annually serve approximately 27,500 students, 60% of whom are students of color. Teaching faculty at Guilford Technical Community College are responsible for supporting student success by creating an optimum learning environment, responding to student needs, managing effective instructional activities, modeling employability skills, demonstrating professionalism, developing cooperative work relationships with other faculty and staff, supporting college administrative requirements, and maintaining competency in their instructional field. He/she will be responsible for quality instruction.
Under general supervision, this individual will prepare and teach Mechatronics Engineering Technology courses in Programmable Logic Controls and Industrial Robotics, while caring for and maintaining the laboratory facilities. The faculty member must possess the knowledge, skills and experience to provide effective instruction in advanced manufacturing topics related to mechatronics engineering technology.
Duties/Functions
Teaching
Prepare & teach departmental courses to include:
โ€ข developing learner centered lesson plans
โ€ข employing teaching strategies & instructional materials for different learning styles
โ€ข incorporating, as pedagogically appropriate, current technology in classroom, distance learning and laboratory environments
โ€ข creating and modeling a quality learning environment that supports a diverse student population
โ€ข preparing, distributing and utilizing instructional support materials, including course syllabi, supplementary materials, instructional media and other devices as appropriate
โ€ข conducting appropriate assessment of student learning outcomes in courses and programs/general education as appropriate
Professional Development
Maintain a professional status that supports the instructional mission by:
โ€ข participating in professional development activities to maintain currency in field; maintaining current credentials or licensures as required by program or accreditation
โ€ข participating in professional development opportunities to advance teaching skills and strategies
Administration
Provide daily & ongoing oversight of facilities, equipment and student records to include:
โ€ข maintaining classroom and laboratory spaces including upkeep of assigned equipment
โ€ข providing for the security of facilities, equipment and instructional materials and maintaining safe working conditions
โ€ข maintaining student records (e.g., grades and attendance) in accordance with established deadlines using a variety of technology-based programs (e.g., Colleague, WebAdvisor, Moodle)
โ€ข complying with all applicable college, state and federal rules and regulations
Student Support
Provide an environment conducive to student success to include:
โ€ข addressing student concerns in a timely manner
โ€ข promoting retention/persistence by assisting students to develop strategies for success
โ€ข referring students to campus and community resources when appropriate
โ€ข Demonstrate and model the College's employability skills: adaptability, communication, information processing, problem solving, responsibility and teamwork.

Education- the faculty member will have the educational background needed to meet accreditation/approval, certification and departmental requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Documented industry training in automation equipment (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc)
  • Industry recognized mechatronics certifications or the ability to attain them within six months of hire (e.g., Allen Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc)

Education Preferred
  • Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Control Systems Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology or a related field from a regionally accredited institution
  • Siemen's Mechatronics and/or Mechatronics Instructor Certifications

Experience Required
  • One year of relevant industry experience in the operation of automated systems including industrial robotic equipment (i.e., Fanuc) and/or with systems integration
  • Working knowledge of programmable logic controls and industrial robotics

Experience Preferred
  • More than 1 year of relevant industry experience in the operation of automated systems including industrial robotic equipment (i.e., Fanuc) and/or with systems integration
  • Teaching experience or industry training experience
  • Experience with assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Experience with distance learning and/or alternate instructional delivery systems
