Description
Schedule: Times between 7am-5pm on Weekdays, Some Saturdays (based on students' schedules)
Location: Steinman Community Center, 420 S. Broad Street, Lancaster, PA
Reports To: Director of K-16 & Strategic Initiatives
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Position Summary
The K-16 Student Assistant supports the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational and community engagement initiatives from kindergarten through career. Working collaboratively with K-16 staff, community partners, and campus stakeholders, this position assists with organizing events, developing educational programming, promoting resources and services, and building meaningful connections with students, families, and community members. The Student Assistant plays a key role in fostering inclusive, accessible, and impactful learning experiences for diverse populations both on campus and throughout the community.
Examples of Duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Help organize, set up, and facilitate events, workshops, and activities both on-campus and in the community.
  • Build relationships with families, local organizations, and community members to promote literacy initiatives.
  • Design and implement educational programming that meets the needs of diverse populations, including children and adults.
  • Develop marketing materials and utilize various channels to promote events and resources to the community.
  • Identify and procure resources, materials, and funding to support programs and events.
  • Assess the effectiveness of initiatives, gather feedback, and prepare reports on outcomes and impact.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Check Steinman Community Center (first and second floors) periodically during shift to ensure that guests are in the appropriate areas.
  • Notify campus security of any issues inside the building and/or in the parking area.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development activities as assigned.
  • Collaborate with academic departments, student services, and external partners to support programming.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student, employee, and institutional information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the success of the program.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external partners.
  • Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office - Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service.
  • Ability to work independently and to carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines, and standard accepted practices.

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
Required:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred:
  • 2nd year TSCT student
  • Enrollment in the Electro-Mechanical Technology program.
  • Experience working with kids.
