Mechanical Superintendent (HVAC, Plumbing & Equipment Startup)

As a Mechanical Superintendent, you will lead HVAC and plumbing operations on large-scale commercial construction projectsโ€”including schools, hospitals, and advanced government facilitiesโ€”while ensuring seamless equipment installation, startup, and long-term performance.

What Youโ€™ll Do

Lead with Purpose

  • Oversee daily field operations and direct skilled craft workers and subcontractors across HVAC and plumbing scopes
  • Ensure proper staffing, material availability, and efficient workflow from project start through completion
  • Enforce safety standards and promote a culture of accountability on the jobsite

Plan, Execute & Deliver

  • Review project drawings, specifications, and contract documents to develop construction strategies and detailed schedules
  • Manage submittals, procurement, installation, and startup activities in alignment with project requirements
  • Coordinate closely with Project Managers, subcontractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless execution

Equipment Startup & Commissioning

  • Lead the startup, testing, and commissioning of mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Verify system performance, troubleshoot issues, and ensure readiness for turnover
  • Oversee system operation throughout the warranty period, ensuring reliability and contract compliance

Drive Performance & Cost Control

  • Monitor budgets, control costs, and implement efficient installation and startup strategies
  • Review subcontractor progress, approve billings, and maintain accurate production tracking
  • Provide field-driven insights to support scheduling, purchasing, and overall project success

Stay Ahead of the Curve

  • Develop site logistics plans, including site utilization, security, and material flow
  • Maintain accurate daily reports, logs, and documentation to ensure compliance and transparency
  • Ensure all work meets contractual, quality, and organizational standards

What You Bring

  • OSHA Safety Training (minimum OSHA 10-hour certification)
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory experience in HVAC and plumbing construction
  • Proven experience in commercial or institutional projects (schools, hospitals, government, or industrial facilities)
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical systems installation and equipment startup/commissioning
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contract documents
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to bend, stoop, climb, and lift up to 25 pounds
