Position Summary

Mesabi Metallics is seeking a Supervisor – Mechanical Maintenance. This role will be responsible for leading and overseeing the mechanical maintenance activities of mining equipment and machinery. This role ensures that all maintenance operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company policies and industry regulations. The Supervisor will manage a team of technicians, coordinate maintenance schedules, and contribute to the continuous improvement of processes.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the Coordinator – Concentrator Maintenance, the Supervisor – Mechanical Maintenance will be responsible for the following:
  • Supervise and mentor a team of millwrights.
  • Assign daily tasks and monitor team performance to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Foster a collaborative and safety-focused work environment.
  • Oversee the maintenance, repair, and servicing of mining equipment, including crushers, haul trucks, and conveyors.
  • Ensure timely execution of preventive and corrective maintenance activities.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical failures and develop solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Enforce safety standards and procedures, ensuring compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and inspections to promote a safety-first culture.
  • Manage inventory levels of mechanical parts and tools, ensuring adequate supply for maintenance tasks.
  • Collaborate with procurement for timely acquisition of necessary materials and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance metrics.
  • Prepare reports for management regarding maintenance operations, including issues and resolutions.
  • Identify opportunities for process enhancements to improve maintenance efficiency and equipment reliability.
  • Work closely with engineering and operations teams to implement best practices and innovative solutions.

Skills and Qualifications
  • Minimum of four years of mechanical maintenance experience in a heavy industrial setting.
  • Supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certifications in mechanical maintenance or management are advantageous.
Education
  • High School Graduate or GED
  • Completion of 2-year technical program or Bachelor's Degree in related curriculum

Physical Requirements
  • This position requires some work in front of a PC, desk, and phone and regular field work.
  • Some lifting and strength required.
