What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mechanical Integration Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mechanical Integration Engineer, you need a solid background in mechanical engineering principles, systems integration, and typically a bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering. Familiarity with CAD software (such as SolidWorks or CATIA), product lifecycle management (PLM) systems, and relevant industry certifications are highly valued. Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and effective communication skills make a candidate stand out in this role. These competencies are crucial for ensuring that complex mechanical systems are seamlessly integrated and function reliably within larger projects.

What are some common challenges Mechanical Integration Engineers face when coordinating with cross-functional teams during a project?

Mechanical Integration Engineers often work closely with electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure all components fit and function together seamlessly. One common challenge is aligning differing timelines, priorities, and technical requirements between teams, which can lead to integration delays or design conflicts. Strong communication and project management skills are crucial to proactively identify potential issues and facilitate effective collaboration. Being adaptable and solution-oriented helps in navigating these complexities to deliver a successful integrated product.

What engineers make $300,000 a year?

Senior engineers in specialized fields such as petroleum, aerospace, or software engineering can earn $300,000 or more annually, especially with extensive experience, advanced skills, and leadership roles. High-level positions often require advanced degrees, certifications, and a strong track record of project management and technical expertise.

What does a mechanical integration engineer do?

A mechanical integration engineer designs, tests, and implements the integration of mechanical systems within larger products or systems, ensuring components work together effectively. They often collaborate with electrical and software teams, use CAD tools, and verify mechanical compatibility and performance during development and testing phases.

Can you make $200,000 a year as a mechanical engineer?

Mechanical Integration Engineers with extensive experience, advanced skills, and working in high-paying industries such as aerospace or energy can potentially earn $200,000 or more annually. Achieving this salary often requires specialized certifications, leadership roles, or working in regions with higher compensation levels. Entry-level or mid-career mechanical engineers typically earn less than this amount.

What engineers make $500,000 a year?

Highly experienced engineers in specialized fields such as aerospace, petroleum, or certain senior roles in software engineering can earn $500,000 or more annually. These positions often require advanced skills, certifications, and leadership responsibilities, and compensation may include bonuses and stock options.

Job description

Turion Space is building the autonomous infrastructure required to operate, protect, and sustain the in-space economy. From on-orbit inspection and debris removal to autonomous spacecraft operations powered by Starfire OS, Turionโ€™s growth depends on disciplined capital planning, clear financial insight, and strong executive decision support.
Turion Space is seeking a Mid-Level Spacecraft Integration Engineer to join our growing team in Irvine, CA. The Spacecraft Integration Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for complex spacecraft systems. This role is critical to ensuring our spacecraft are built to the highest standards of quality, reliability, and safety from mechanical integration through electrical assembly. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to resolve manufacturing anomalies, develop and refine processes, and drive efficiency across the production floor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process Design: Support the development and implementation of manufacturing processes and procedures in line with industry best practices. Assist in specifying manufacturing equipment and tooling to improve production efficiency and product quality.

  • Troubleshooting: Provide technical support to resolve production issues, including equipment malfunctions, process deviations, and quality problems.

  • Documentation: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation of manufacturing processes, procedures, and changes. Ensure compliance with industry standards and regulations.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with design engineers, production teams, and suppliers to ensure seamless integration of new products and processes. Facilitate communication and coordination between teams.

  • Project Management: Contribute to manufacturing projects, including the introduction of new processes, technologies, and production lines. Support project timelines, resource tracking, and performance reporting under the direction of senior staff.

  • Quality Assurance: Apply quality control standards to ensure products meet specifications. Participate in root cause analysis and support corrective action implementation for identified quality issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

  • Hands-On Manufacturing Experience (Required): Demonstrated hands-on experience assembling, integrating, or testing complex hardware systems, with technical depth in identifying defects and non-conformances.

  • Electro-Mechanical Integration: Proven experience working on complex, bespoke electro-mechanical systems with a strong emphasis on mechanical integration and solid working knowledge of electrical integration.

  • Anomaly Resolution: Demonstrated ability to identify, investigate, and resolve manufacturing anomalies on complex electro-mechanical assemblies, including root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Experience: 3+ years of experience in an integration, assembly, or manufacturing engineering role, with a working understanding of integration processes and quality standards. Prior lead experience is a plus but not required.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in manufacturing software and tools (e.g., CAD, MRP systems). Knowledge of manufacturing processes, quality control, and equipment management.

  • Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and clearly present technical information.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in manufacturing processes and documentation.

  • Must be able to obtain a Secret and/or a TS/SCI clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education: Masterโ€™s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.

  • Industry Experience: 5+ years of manufacturing or integration engineering experience in aerospace or another complex, high-tech industry.

  • Advanced Skills: Familiarity with process optimization methodologies and a desire to grow expertise in advanced manufacturing techniques and technology integration.
