As a mechanical insulator, your duties are to apply insulation to walls, ducts, and pipes that are part of commercial or residential heating and cooling systems. This may include systems that control manufacturing or energy equipment. Your responsibilities are to assess the scope of the job, measure the dimensions, and follow blueprints. You cut various types of insulation, such as fiberglass, cork, or Styrofoam, which is applied around metal ductwork. You may also remove or repair old equipment. Mechanical insulators often work in small teams and may have some supervisory duties.
