Job Summary:

S&G is seeking a Mechanical Designer to support the design, development, and maintenance of high-security mechanical lock systems and related hardware. You will contribute to new products, enhancements to existing solutions, integrations with electronic components and third-party devices, and secure adaptations for government, banking, and commercial applications. This collaborative, fast-paced role offers hands-on experience in mechanical design for critical security applications.

Requirements:

Responsibilities:

Develop and modify 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in SolidWorks for mechanical lock mechanisms, components, and systems, incorporating specifications for high-security hardware, tolerances, materials, and integration requirements.

· Prepare and update technical documentation, including prints, bills of materials (BOMs), schematics, and manufacturing instructions, while ensuring accuracy, adherence to industry standards, and compliance with security regulations.

· Act as a documentation librarian by organizing, maintaining, and versioning design files, libraries, and related records to facilitate easy access, revisions, and audit readiness.

· Assist in troubleshooting mechanical issues in lock systems, performing root cause analysis on failures or design discrepancies, and recommending corrective actions in collaboration with engineering teams.

· Collaborate with cross-functional teams to review designs, resolve integration challenges, and support prototyping, testing, or manufacturing processes for secure lock solutions.

Manage part numbers, including assignment, tracking, integration into designs and BOMs, and ensuring consistency across documentation, databases, and product configurations.

· Participate in Change Notice Process activities, such as preparing, reviewing, implementing, and documenting Engineering Change Notices (CNs) and documenting revisions to maintain product integrity, security compliance, and traceability.

· Manage, execute, and manage documentation activity, including planning, coordinating tasks, tracking progress on design releases and updates, and generating reports on documentation status, change metrics, and compliance to support engineering projects, audits, and product lifecycle management.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Competencies:

Advanced SolidWorks Proficiency: Expertise in 3D modeling, assemblies, detailed drawings, sheet metal, weldments, configurations, design tables, and related tools for mechanical components and mechanisms.

· Technical Documentation & Standards: Skilled in creating/updating prints, BOMs, schematics, and instructions; strong adherence to ASME, ISO, GD&T, and security/compliance requirements for high-security hardware.

· Commitment to Continuous Learning: Dedicated to professional growth in mechanical design and CAD; short-term goals include completing SolidWorks (e.g., CSWP) and GD&T certifications to stay current with best practices.

· Strong verbal and written communication skills for documentation, technical discussions, and team collaboration.

· Ability to work effectively in a team, prioritize tasks, and contribute to project success.

· Creativity and eagerness to learn new technologies to enhance system efficiency and reliability.

· Basic understanding of safety, regulatory compliance, and related standards.

Minimum Requirements:

· Bachelor’s degree preferred.

· Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in a world class manufacturing environment.


Physical Requirements:

· Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

· Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

· Must be able to navigate various departments of the organization’s physical premises.
