Job description

POSITION SUMMARY

The Field Engineer / Commissioning Agent supports the startup and commissioning of refrigeration, HVAC, and Energy Management System (EMS) infrastructure for supermarket new construction and remodel projects. This role focuses on executing commissioning activities, verifying system performance, and supporting final system acceptance at client sites.

The Field Engineer / Commissioning Agent reports to the Manager of Field Engineering and works closely with engineering, construction, and client teams to ensure systems are installed, tested, and operating in accordance with project requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Field Support & Commissioning Execution

  • Conduct site visits during construction and remodel phases to inspect installation progress and verify adherence to project scope, design documents, and programming standards.

  • Execute on-site commissioning activities, including point-to-point testing and functional verification of EMS-controlled equipment.

  • Commission HVACR equipment that is newly installed or relocated as part of construction or remodel projects.

  • Provide start-up and commissioning support for refrigeration rack systems in coordination with contractors and manufacturers.

System Evaluation & Documentation

  • Evaluate and document existing RHVAC and EMS systems for integration into capital projects.

  • Prepare interim commissioning reports and final commissioning documentation, identifying exceptions, deficiencies, and out-of-spec conditions.

  • Support resolution tracking in collaboration with the Construction Project Manager and engineering teams.

Controls & Programming Support

  • Verify proper operation, communication, and programming of EMS and RHVAC control systems.

  • Implement minor control wiring modifications and programming adjustments as required to support inspections and commissioning activities.

  • Support EMS programming updates as directed by engineering or field leadership.

Technical Support & Coordination

  • Act as a technical resource for Level 2 refrigeration and EMS-related issues as assigned.

  • Assist with troubleshooting and resolution of system issues both remotely and on-site.

  • Perform minor repairs and system adjustments on HVACR and control components as needed.

  • Collaborate closely with Construction Project Managers, engineering teams, contractors, and vendors to support timely issue resolution.

  • Communicate commissioning status, risks, and outstanding items clearly and professionally to project stakeholders.

REQUIREMENTS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in supermarket construction, commissioning, engineering, or HVACR/controls maintenance

  • Working knowledge of large refrigeration rack systems, including DX, Cascade, Micro DS, and Transcritical CO

  • Experience operating and programming Danfoss and/or Emerson supermarket control systems

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and troubleshooting skills

  • Effective oral and written communication skills

  • Valid Driver's License

  • AutoCAD experience a plus

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and specifications

  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy

  • Customer-focused mindset with a professional field presence

  • Ability to work independently while following established processes and direction

  • Comfortable working in machine rooms and field environments that may be loud, dusty, confined, or difficult to access
