Mechanical Design Engineer
At ReLogic Research, you won't be just another headcount. We're a tight-knit team of engineers, physicists, and technical professionals solving complex challenges in national defense - and we're looking for engineers who enjoy building real hardware and getting the details right.
As an AS9100D-certified small business supporting the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Missile Defense Agency, we move fast, trust our people, and give engineers meaningful ownership of their work. Unlike larger organizations, our engineers work directly across design, build, integration, and technical problem-solving.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy designing and maturing real hardware in CAD, solving practical mechanical problems, and working closely with fabrication, assembly, and integration teams.
Primary Responsibilities
- Design mechanical components, assemblies, fixtures, and support hardware in SolidWorks for defense and aerospace applications
- Develop detailed, manufacturing-ready CAD models and engineering drawings from technical requirements, analyst inputs, and engineering concepts
- Collaborate closely with analysts, engineers, designers, machinists, and technical staff to mature concepts into buildable hardware
- Evaluate mechanical fit, function, tolerances, manufacturability, and assembly considerations during design development
- Develop and maintain CAD models and product definition inputs that support drawing production
- Participate in drawing release, revision control, and engineering change processes using company product definition standards
- Support prototype builds, hardware integration, troubleshooting, testing, and installation activities to ensure design intent is achieved
- Participate in technical and peer design reviews and contribute practical engineering solutions to mechanical design challenges
Required Qualifications
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering discipline
- 5+ years of experience designing mechanical hardware and assemblies in SolidWorks
- Strong proficiency creating manufacturing-ready CAD models and engineering drawings
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance considerations, and mechanical drawing standards
- Experience designing mechanical assemblies intended for fabrication, integration, or field use
- Strong practical mechanical problem-solving skills and engineering judgment
- Active Secret security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with SolidWorks Product Data Management (PDM)
- Familiarity with ASME Y14.100, Engineering Product Definition and Related Documentation Practices
- Experience supporting prototype builds, hardware integration, troubleshooting, or installation
- Experience in aerospace, defense, manufacturing, or other highly regulated industries
- Familiarity with machined parts, welded structures, sheet metal, precision assemblies, or electromechanical packaging
This is a full-time salaried position with highly competitive compensation based on experience and skills, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities for career growth. Approximately 10% travel is expected.
