Mechanic Foreman Jobs in Nevada (NOW HIRING)

Under general supervision, performs routine inspection, preventive maintenance, housekeeping, and other maintenance-related duties on District school buses to ensure buses are maintained in a safe, clean, and serviceable condition. Reports to the Transportation Mechanic Foreman or Director of Transportation.

1. Inspects assigned buses and promptly notifies the Transportation Mechanic Foreman or Principal of needed repairs or maintenance.
2. Maintains high standards of cleanliness and good housekeeping on assigned buses.
3. Performs routine preventive maintenance and care of school buses as directed.
4. Assists with identifying and reporting conditions that may affect the safe operation or appearance of District buses.
5. Performs routine checks and maintenance-related tasks as assigned by the Transportation Mechanic Foreman or Principal.
6. Maintains buses and assigned work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
7. Complies with applicable District, state, and federal safety standards, rules, and regulations.
8. Assumes such other tasks related to the position as assigned by the Transportation Mechanic Foreman or Principal.

Involves inspecting, cleaning, maintaining, and performing routine preventive care on school buses. Work is performed in and around large vehicles and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions, noise, and other transportation-related hazards.

Ability to recognize and report mechanical, safety, cleanliness, and maintenance concerns involving school buses.

Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance and care of school buses.

Ability to operate a variety of school buses.

Ability to read, comprehend, and apply laws, rules, regulations, and safety procedures pertaining to school buses and commercial vehicles.

Ability to follow written and oral instructions.

Ability to maintain accurate records and complete reports as required.

Ability to recognize and report hazards and apply safe work methods.

Ability to use basic tools, equipment, and supplies associated with bus maintenance and housekeeping.

Ability to work cooperatively with Transportation Department employees, school administrators, bus drivers, students, parents, and the public.

Ability to communicate effectively with the Transportation Mechanic Foreman or Principal regarding needed repairs, maintenance concerns, and bus conditions.

Possess physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.

Ability to perform duties in accordance with District safety procedures and applicable federal and state regulations.

High school graduation or other equivalent, (i.e., GED, trade school, foreign equivalency, etc.); or, Three (3) years of successful driving experience with a current Commercial Driver's License.

Safe driving record.

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Successful completion of Bus Driver Trainee Program, as applicable.

Must meet all qualifications required of a Bus Driver.

Majority of tasks and duties are performed in and around school buses, transportation facilities, parking lots, garages, and other District facilities. Work may involve exposure to outdoor weather temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat, as well as confined work areas and areas with moderate to very loud noise levels.

Strength: Medium/Heavy - Exert force to 50-150 lbs., occasionally; 30-50 lbs., frequently; or up to 25 lbs., constantly.

Grasping/Gripping: Must possess sufficient physical strength and power grasp to safely handle tools, equipment, cleaning supplies, hoses, vehicle components, and other materials associated with bus maintenance and housekeeping. Must possess sufficient grasp to maintain control of steering and other vehicle controls when operating a commercial vehicle.

Pushing/Pulling: Up to 150-175 lbs. when moving equipment, supplies, or assisting with transportation-related equipment. Frequent pushing and pulling of doors, equipment, hoses, carts, and other materials.

Lifting: Up to 100 lbs., occasionally; 50–60 lbs., frequently; or up to 10–25 lbs., constantly.

Carrying: Up to 50 lbs. for short distances and up to 20–25 lbs. for extended periods as required.

Physical Demands: Occasional climbing, balancing, lying on back/stomach, and crawling. Frequent standing, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, twisting, kneeling, stooping, crouching, reaching, handling, repetitive fine motor activities, talking, and hearing. Requires sitting for periods of time when operating or inspecting buses.

Walking: Up to 500 feet at any one occurrence without rest. Climb steps and curbing as required.

Neck Motion: Frequent to continuous neck motion and flexion when inspecting buses, working around vehicles, and operating equipment.

Vision: Frequent near and far acuity, depth perception, focal length change, color vision, and peripheral vision.

Hearing/Vision: Constant looking and listening to identify hazards, vehicle conditions, equipment operation, and emergency vehicles or other hazards while working in and around buses and transportation facilities. Hearing and speech to communicate in person or over the telephone.

Environmental Conditions: Exposure to outdoor weather temperatures ranging from mild/moderate to extreme cold/heat. Exposure to noise levels ranging from moderate to very loud for occasional to frequent time periods. May be exposed to dust, dirt, cleaning products, vehicle fluids, and other materials associated with bus maintenance.

Hazards: Large vehicles and buses, vehicle traffic, slips and falls, tools and equipment, cleaning chemicals, vehicle fluids, moving mechanical components, electrical equipment, communicable diseases, and other hazards associated with transportation and maintenance operations.

Examples of Equipment/Supplies Used to Perform Tasks: Elko County School District-issued buses, basic hand tools, cleaning equipment and supplies, hoses, vacuum equipment, brooms, mops, first aid kit, body fluid kit, fire extinguisher, emergency triangles, safety vests, wheel chocks, vehicle fluids, lubricants, ladders, two-way radios, and other transportation maintenance equipment and supplies, etc.
