Job description

Position Description:
Outpost Technologies is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer 3 to create unique solutions for complex problems for the defense, space, and commercial fields; strengthen current core competencies; and introduce new skillsets within our growing business.
Position Responsibilities:
  • Lead Outpost Technologies' mechanical and structural hardware development for defense, space, and commercial projects.
  • Inform requirements development, conduct conceptual designs, present at milestone reviews, attend program meetings, draft reports, and produce and review high-quality drawing products.
  • Apply sound mechanical engineering and design principles in the development of machined, structural, fabricated, sheet metal, and composite components.
  • Define component specification and Bill of Material development requiring clear communication between vendors, Outpost, and our customers.
  • Design mechanical and integrated systems using sound engineering processes such as design for manufacturability, drawing production, & PDM/PLM/configuration management.
  • Manage technical, schedule, and budgetary risk and is capable to report to management and/or customers.

Excellent communication skills are required. The Candidate must be self-motivated and produce excellent work that exceeds customer expectations. The Candidate must always present a professional demeanor while representing Outpost Technologies to customers and stakeholders. The Candidate should also be aware of future business opportunities and show initiative in pursuing these endeavors.
Basic Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or an equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university is required.
  • A minimum of 13+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience is expected. Graduate degrees, military service, or technical accreditations/certifications may be substituted where applicable.
  • Strong leadership skills suitable for guiding multidisciplinary design teams are essential.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and familiarity with configuration management processes is required.
  • Experience drafting, reviewing, and releasing mechanical drawings in accordance with ASME Y14 standards is necessary.
  • Residency in or willingness to relocate to the Huntsville-North Alabama area is required.
  • A solid understanding of engineering development processes from requirements definition through operations is expected.
  • Demonstrated project and task management skills and/or relevant experience are necessary.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preference shown to candidates who have experience and/or working knowledge with:
  • SOLIDWORKS MCAD software package
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Finite Element Modeling software packages
  • Product Data Management (PDM) systems
  • Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems
  • Software development and hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • Proposal Development and Opportunity Capture
  • Prototyping and Manufacturing Technologies
  • DoD requirements development, test plans and procedures, or test support
  • Travel up to 4 weeks (10 workdays) per year
