  • Job Type: Full-Time, Monday-Friday. Weekend availability and/or evening availability is a plus, particularly when needed to support department coverage, special orders, or business needs.
Position Summary

We are looking for a dependable, hardworking Meat Cutter / Butcher to join our team at TenneyBrook Market. This position plays an important role in the day-to-day operation of our meat department and deli. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with a variety of meats, takes pride in quality and presentation, and enjoys providing friendly, knowledgeable service to customers.

Responsibilities include cutting and preparing a variety of meats, preparing deli products, cooking rotisserie chickens, maintaining attractive and well-stocked displays, assisting with ordering and inventory, and working closely with the kitchen team to coordinate weekly specials and product needs.

This is a hands-on position in a smaller meat department. The successful candidate should be prepared to take ownership of their responsibilities, work independently, and help keep the department running smoothly.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Cut, trim, portion, and prepare a variety of beef, pork, poultry, and other meat products according to department standards and customer requests.
  • Operate meat department equipment including knives, slicers, grinders, scales, and other food preparation equipment safely and properly.
  • Slice and prepare deli meats and cheeses for grab-and-go displays
  • Prepare custom meat and deli orders with attention to accuracy, quality, and presentation.
  • Prepare, season, and cook rotisserie chickens and other prepared meat products.
  • Coordinate with the kitchen team on weekly specials, prepared foods, and deli offerings.
  • Assist with selecting and ordering meat, deli products, and other department supplies based on sales, inventory, and anticipated needs.
  • Receive, inspect, rotate, label, and properly store meat and deli products.
  • Keep meat cases, deli displays, coolers, and work areas clean, organized, attractive, and properly stocked.
  • Monitor product freshness, quality, dates, and proper storage throughout the department.
  • Provide friendly and helpful customer service, answer questions, take special orders, and make recommendations when appropriate.
  • Assist customers with selecting cuts, quantities, and preparation options.
  • Maintain accurate pricing, weighing, labeling, and packaging of products.
  • Follow all applicable food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
  • Keep equipment and entire department area clean and sanitized
Qualifications & Requirements
  • Previous meat cutting experience/butchering is required
  • Candidates should be comfortable working independently with a variety of meats and be able to step into the role ready to contribute from day one.
  • Strong knowledge of meat cutting, trimming, portioning, slicing, packaging, and preparation techniques.
  • Knowledge of different cuts of beef, pork, poultry, and other meats, including proper preparation and handling.
  • Knowledge of and commitment to proper food safety, sanitation, and safe food-handling practices, including following applicable health department requirements/procedures
  • ServSafe certification or other relevant food-safety certification/license is a plus.
  • Ability to safely and effectively use knives, slicers, grinders, scales, and other meat department equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain consistent quality, portion sizes, labeling, pricing, and presentation.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, with the ability to answer questions, make recommendations, and fulfill customer requests.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the kitchen and deli team and coordinate on weekly specials, product needs, and department priorities.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • The ability to lead the day-to-day operation of the meat department is important. This is not a management position and does not include formal supervisory responsibilities, but the successful candidate should be confident in their skills and able to provide direction, support, and leadership within the department.
  • Ability to help train and support a less-experienced team member and maintain department standards.
  • Reliable, organized, and dependable with a strong work ethic and positive attitude.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining quality, cleanliness, food safety, and customer service standards.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry cases or packages of meat and other products weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasional need to lift up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday while performing meat cutting, preparation, stocking, customer service, and other department duties.

  • Ability to frequently bend, reach, twist, grasp, grip, lift, and perform repetitive hand and arm movements.
  • Ability to continuously use hands for cutting, trimming, slicing, wrapping, weighing, labeling, and operating equipment.
  • Ability to safely handle knives, meat-processing equipment, cleaning products, packaging materials, and food products.
