As an integral member of our team, you will have the opportunity to showcase your expertise while contributing to the success of our Meat Department. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing leadership, direction, and supervision to department associates, with a focus on training and development to ensure a high-performing team 
  • Serving as a knowledgeable ambassador for our quality products, meticulously stocking and maintaining meat cases to uphold our standards of excellence 
  • Upholding freshness and visual appeal while adhering to Dierbergs, FDA, USDA, and local food policies and regulations 
  • Collaborating with store management and other departments to create compelling displays that drive sales and promote featured specials, new items, seasonal offerings, and holiday-related products 
  • Championing suggestive selling techniques and setting a positive example for the department  

Qualifications for Success:

  • 1+ years of Journeyman Meat or Service Counter Journeyman experience, demonstrating your proficiency in meat handling and preparation. 
  • Exhibit strong problem-solving abilities, leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, and a motivational mindset. 
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of proper food handling and sanitation procedures and guidelines. 
  • Demonstrate a genuine passion for food and thrive in fast-paced environments.
  • Capable of multitasking, providing direction, delegating tasks, and ensuring compliance with departmental programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to forecast and order products and supplies, effectively managing inventory to meet business demands while prioritizing freshness and rotation.
  • Proficiency in controlling expenses and achieving financial goals.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and varying shifts - enjoy a balanced schedule with no late nights, most meat departments close by 8 pm, allowing for a healthy work-life balance 

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift and carry up to 90 lbs. occasionally  
  • Ability to push and pull up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally 
  • Occasional: Sitting and climbing; frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, squatting, and handling 
  • Frequent: Head turn, trunk bend, side reach, grasp, power grip, pinch, finger manipulation, & feel   
  • Constant - Stand, handling, & forward reach
